[Elecraft] K3: TX off frequency

2008-06-07 Thread ab2tc

Today, for the first time I got a report claiming I was coming back about
100Hz high in frequency on SSB (USB). I received him spot on at the
frequency he had on his dial and returned to him without any RIT or split
function activated. This was an experienced ham, so this has me concerned. I
have the 2.00 firmware.

How could he tell? When tuning in an SSB signal, the frequency could vary by
+ or - 100Hz or more according to personal taste, especially if you don't
know what the other guy's voice really sounds like.

The harmonics of the voice, there was an interesting QEX article using this
as the basis of code for auto-tuning SSB signals.

Hi Simon
Don't have the article in front of me, but if
it says what I think it does, we used that technique
back in the 60's when I ran a Heathkit SB100
transceiver. Worked a lot of DX with it, and
was nearly always spot on their frequency.
Worked really well.

Re: [Elecraft] K3- TX off frequency

2008-04-18 Thread David Ferrington, M0XDF
OK, G4AON and I had a rather difficult QSO this morning and having
spoken on the phone last night and then on 3.775 SSB, we agreed we
both sounded the same, both K3s reading 3.775.000 and I reduced the
DSP to 1.8 and set NR at F1-4 because of the noise.

So, I'm thinking those who say I'm off frequency may have a problem
their end - obviously not K3s :-)

Thanks to those who responded offering a QSO.

freq by 900 Hz. XIT is off. Filters are FM in FL1, AM in FL2, 2.7

properly (I think, looks fine). Where should I look to find the
trouble? I'm stuck on AM right now since it is more forgiving
frequency wise.

2008-04-17 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
Is this a situation where the xmit frequency is 900 Hz below the received
frequency, or a case of the frequency readout not matching another station's
frequency readout?
