OK, that's 2 assumptions. How am I doing?

I don't know if the signal is degraded by the General Coverage
Bandpass filters or not, but I have one in each RX and I can hear a
gnats wings flapping in Siberia (on a quiet band).

Keith,

It workds great; doesn't degrade ham band performance at all. (You can
also receive the NAVTEX broadcasts on 518 KHz, nav warnings offshore
weather. Also some experimental 600m beacons down there...)

[Elecraft] K3 - RX of AM Broadcast band?

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - RX of AM Broadcast band?

2009-02-10 Thread Craig D. Smith
The General Coverage BP filter set seems to have no effect on the ham bands
- it shouldn't, as it is switched out during ham band receive.

If you do get the General Coverage BP filters, note that for maximum
sensitivity for MW reception use the RX antenna input rather than the main
Xmit antenna(s) inputs. When connected this way, the sensitivity and
performance are excellent! And you will need either an AM or FM roofing
filter if you want to do AM detection rather than SSB. Only missing piece
is the synchronous detection firmware.
