[Elecraft] KPA100 K3 relay

2005-12-29 Thread Trevor Smithers
Well, after carefully reading the manual and noting that relay K3 should not be
installed
until after T2, I lost concentration and installed it by mistake. Is this a
show stopper,
requiring removal of the relay, or more to do with having enough room to solder
T2 to
the long pads etc?

Hi Trevor:
I'm reasonably sure that the latter reason is the driving
force. From experience in removing T2, the hot iron CAN accidentally
bump into K3.

2005-12-29 Thread Don Wilhelm
Trevor,

The reason K3 is no mounted until later is to allow more room for pulling
the wires through T2 and soldering the core and wires - but since you have
it already mounted, I would say that you should leave it in and work around
it carefully rather than risk damage by removing it. OTOH, if you have a
good desoldering tool like the Hakko 808, removing it would be easier and a
prudent thing to do.
