Ken:
It is kind of tricky to get it right. The actions you describe indicate
that you have the underline under the InP. The underline can not be under
the InP to get this extra feature.
Follow these steps:
Tap Menu
Then Select (that is, rotate the VFO as needed) - InP PdLn - (or it may
read PdLr or HAnd),
Depress (HOLD) MENU so that PdLn (or it may read PdLr or HAnd) is underlined
(or if you use reverse paddle that PdLr is underlined. Don't leave it in
Hand as this is pure Straight Key. If it reads HAnd rotate the VFO to PdLn
or PdLr.) The underline can not be under the InP
Now tap DISPLAY. You should briefly see AdEt and either OFF or On.
Tap DISPLAY again if you need to so that the last display you saw is AdEt
On. (It toggles each time you tap DISPLAY.)
Then exit the menu (tap Menu key).
I have found that sometimes I need to shut off auto-detect as I squeeze
the two paddles together at exactly the same time and thus get a long dah
rather than di dah di dah di dah.

Subject: Re: [Elecraft] External Keying Auto-Detect problem
Rich,
Mine says Pdln DISPLAY
response is SEC
Port OFF
One problem I have noticed is no keying on insertion of the
Bencher paddle key line cable. I have to play around with it
before I get any keying. Is this related?
