Subject: [Elecraft] K3 - Can't ship them out the door?

Hello all,

I grew tired of waiting for a K3. Called Elecraft today and they said my
August order would not be shipped out until after January
sometime. Never heard of ordering a radio and having to wait around six
months for it - maybe longer!

I cancelled my order and asked for my deposit back. To bad Elecraft can't
ship their premier product out the door in a timely manner. And yes I've
been a big fan after building a K2, K1 and KX1.

So now I'll Xmas shop for a new rig! It won't be a K3 - to bad.

72,

Ed, WA3WSJ

'Extensive promotion'? I have seen some adds in the magazines, and a
couple of articles in NCJ by early adopters. But nothing big
mainstream. I have not seen multi-page spreads, or any promotions you
see from other manufactures. Most of the 'promotion' has been on this
list. Promotion on other lists are based on field testers. But
regardless, thanks for the step ahead.

such extensive promotion so far in advance of delivery in
real quantity. In particular, I can't think of any where the

pre-paid orders by more than 90 days.

I understand the temptation to announce a product at a large
trade show (hamfest) even though deliveries are in the

availability date. I even understand problems involved in
ramping up production when the initial prototype is complete
and working. However, to accept orders (particularly with
payment at the time of order or with significant deposits)
for products that are not in production and can not possibly
be delivered in a timely manner and then fail to provide
realistic schedule updates is questionable - and a sure way
 to alienate potential customers.

Right now we are wondering how in the heck we are going to survive
this ordeal. A year from now we are all going to be saying, yeah, there was
no doubt in my mind that Elecraft would come through, and, gee, I sure
love my new K3. When we finally get our K3 all of this will seem so
fleeting and really, not much of a wait after all, especially when I
consider the end result.

Chill out! Nobody is trying to screw you out of anything.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - Can't ship them out the door?

2007-12-07 Thread Dave Martin
I know how you feel, Ed. Mine was ordered in August also. And I've
sold my beautiful Japanese special with all its bells and whistles and
design flaws, so I have no HF radio at all. But it's only a hobby and
I have better things to keep me occupied during the holiday season.
The reason for the season, you know. Better read plenty of reviews on
any radio you think you might be interested in. Many of them have a
few problems, and the next firmware update won't fix most of them,
either. Good luck.

2007-12-07 Thread Ken Kopp

Ed,

Of course you're gonna limit yourself to the same price range
as the K3 you had ordered in your shopping . a classic
shoot yourself in the foot move ... sad.

Regardless of the money you spend you still won't own the
unquestioned best.

I had an FT-1000D, an FT-990 and an IC-756 PRO II here
in the shack when I ordered mine, so I'm qualified to comment.

All three have been sold on eBay.
