Bill, I stand corrected. I have a K4D ordered in that I use diversity. When the superhet front end comes out it will be added.I well understand Covid problems. It is rampant in the EU as well. Still plans must be in place. Production thanks to much effort is running. It is not unreasonable for a customer for many years to ask questions. Hi Bill, The K4 and K4D both provide up to 5 receive antenna sources. The difference is that the K4D has an additional ADC so the sub receiver can be on a different antenna from the main receiver. 73, Wayne N6KR > On Jan 5, 2021, at 2:12 PM, Nr4c wrote: > > The superhet is the K4HD, not the K4D. “D” only adds a second AtoD and an > antenna port. Not in my experience. Chokes are inductors and, together with stray capacitance, can create unwanted resonances and accompanying parasitics. Even a basic K4 is the equivalent of: K3S + P3 + KRX3 (for dual-watch purposes) + KXV3 + KDVR3 + Linux/Intel MPU + large touch screen + external monitor adapter (like P3 SVGA, but HDMI) + more controls, more antenna jacks, more digital I/O ports, and all the DSP/ADC/DAC/FPGA hardware needed to create a modern SDR. It also has a multi-processor architecture with unlimited potential for future expansion. Wayne, Can you give a rough estimate of how many parts there are in a K4 compared to a K3? About the same? More? Less? (More parts = more fun.) 73, Drew AF2Z On 05/18/20 11:12, Wayne Burdick wrote: We certainly appreciate the interest in a K4 kit. Or you can do what I did with my K3: burn up a static drain resistor on your antenna entrance panel, decide that the smell is coming from the K4, take it completely to pieces to try to find the burned component, and then -- after discovering what actually happened -- put it all back together again. 73, Victor, 4X6GP Rehovot, Israel Formerly K2VCO CWops no. 5 http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/ . That’s a great idea. And the parts left over after I put it back together again I can keep as spares at no extra cost. Neat! Re: [Elecraft] K4 Kit
Ted, The kit assembly manual information will be gleaned from the experience gained from the build of the first production models. That was true for the K3 and KX3 - yes it is unlike the experience with the K2, K1 and KX1 which were not available as factory asssembled (kit only), but they held a Field Test with a number of builders which resulted in many changes to the assembly manual. That is not the same as the situation today. The kit version will available only after a substantial number of factory assembled units have shipped. My wild guess it will be 2 to 3 months later than the ship of the first factory assembled units. 73, Don W3FPR On 5/17/2019 9:41 AM, Dauer, Edward wrote: Here’s the vexing problem.
