Steve - Most likely a magnetic field problem. I had a similar experience. I've learned to keep the Titan II and its huge transformer at least 2 feet from the K2 when it is turned on etc. But I got caught recently with a Radio Shack giant LED 24 hour clock. It is the same width as the K2 and looks really slick on top of it. After scratching my head trying to move the rotator control box, the Ten-Tec 1amp supply and its transformer away from the K2 I finally lifted up the clock...the distortion went a way. There must be a decent sized transformer in the bottom of the clock case. Have you moved anything closer to the K2 than before? That can also be caused by having a strong signal from a BC band station in the neighborhood. The noise blanker, in order to do it's thing, MUST turn the I.F. signal path off an on at a fairly high rate of speed (once per pulse of noise). That process turns it into a mixer, just looking for signals to mix together to produce an endless array of strange-sounding effects. That's why the manual advises using the noise limiter ONLY when it's really needed! As you get closer to the BC Band it's easier for a strong broadcast signal to put enough RF into the front end for a problem-causing amount to make it in where it can do mischief. Some of our European friends have to cope with that sort of stuff around 40 meters because of their proximity to many of those huge SW broadcasting stations. Another possibility to investigate is a transformer on the operating table. Some ops have reported hearing a buzz or 'raspiness' on signals more on one band than others due to AC magnetic fields around the K2.
