For regular SSB work, the standard 2.7 kHz filter should be fine. The
jury is still out on whether the 8-pole 2.8 is worth the extra money.

For CW, you should have the 500 or 400 (same caveat about the more
expensive 8-pole version).

I have found the 1 kHz filter very useful for CW, because I like to
listen with a wider bandwidth.

Probably only serious digital guys need the 250. Remember that you can
narrow the bandwidth with the DSP, and the filters are only used to
protect the DSP from signals greater than about S9+30.

This is all just MY OPINION and others may disagree!

If you want the 2.8KHz, you can swop out the 2.7 and replace with 2.8 at a
discounted price

FWIW I hear the difference as the 250Hz kicks in as I change the bandwidth
from 300Hz down to 250Hz, the difference is (I think) less DSP noise - maybe
Lyle can explain. It's not a problem at all.

For SSB I have the 1.8kHz and that really is a great filter, I was listening
on 40m a few hours ago with 1.6kHz bandwidth - very, very good.

I agree about 1kHz for tuning about on CW.

Hi Mike,
Along with others here is my recommendation. You work mostly
SSB very little CW and no contesting to speak of. I don't see
why you would want a CW filter more narrow than 1khz. If you
need to be tighter than that, probably not, but you can narrow it all
down with the DSP. OTOH if you have the bux, go for it all.

I don't have any 5 pole filters, so cannot comment on how they

wouldn't want to rely solely on the 2.8 KHz filter.

Dave,

Perhaps you can comment on what sort of improvement was noted when
the 400 Hz filter was switched in. Noise? Steeper skirt
selectivity? Impulse response (ringing)? IM products?
