[Elementary-dev-community] UX team feedbacks

2012-07-22 Thread Mario Guerriero
Hi guys,

I am writing here because I didn't find some people from the UX team in IRC. I
want to get feedbacks to the latest two scratch bugs targeted for luna-beta1
milestone (https://bugs.launchpad.net/scratch/+milestone/luna-beta1). Having
them I will be able to release Scratch 1.1.1 :)

Best regards,
Mario--

2012-07-22 Thread Mario Guerriero
Hi guys,

I just checked the latest terminal's bugs for luna-beta1 milestone and I
noticed that everything is fixed. So what I am saying is that I want to release
pantheon-terminal 0.1.

Please help me finding other bugs in this version and let me to know them in
order to be able to fix them.

Best regards,

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Shell Plug

2012-07-22 Thread Andrea Basso

Just my two cents:

The dock should also have an option to change icons' size, while I don't
think the option to hide the category switcher in Slingshot could be very
useful: you don't gain anything by hiding it.

We should ship a plug to configure and tweak various parts of the
Pantheon
desktop. This would essentially be a safer interface to tweak the
GSettings

keys (or *shudder* config files) of the shell including:

* Panel
* Dock
* Slingshot
* Window Manager

Panel

The user should be able to choose the hide mode of the panel (if that's
implemented). We could also potentially have some theming options
available.

Dock
-

The user should be able to choose the hide mode of the dock. We could
also

potentially have some theming options available.

Slingshot
-

The user should be able to change the grid and icon sizes of the
launcher.

They should also be able to toggle the view switcher on/off.

Window Manager

The user should be able to change/configure some shell settings such as
hotcorners, the Aeroesque "snap" option, dynamic workspaces, and other
options made available through GSettings.

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Shell Plug

2012-07-22 Thread Cassidy James
The idea there is that it's a single place to tweak the shell. Users don't
have to know that Plank, WingPanel, and Gala are all separate things.
They're all a part of the shell.

Distributions cannot ship mplayer2 as well as any other project that relies
on ffmpeg/libav because of multiple legal issues with libavcodec. You can
look up Ubuntu technical board resolution 2007-01-02 for details on the
issue.
A stripped-down non-multiverse version of libavcodec exists Ubuntu repos;
I'm not sure if it was taken into account back in 2007, though. That
libavcodec variant originates from Debian, so more recent discussions from
other distros are not useful.

Why should it all live in one plug though? We could keep them as two or
three separate plugs and keep things modular and Tweakers can install them
separately...that way if someone is not using slingshot or plank, he would
not need to have those useless options present. Would this not align with
pantheon's goals of being modular? Just some thoughts...

Hey Pim,

I believe even now all stable releases are announced via Launchpad, see
http://elementaryos.org/journal/launchpad-announcements
You can use an RSS-to-email forwarder if you're not into RSS.

Thanks again for your work!

Re: [Elementary-dev-community] Vedo - Lightweight mplayer2 front-end for elementary OS

2012-07-22 Thread Cody Garver
I consider using mplayer2 cheating. These designs always inspired me:
spiceofdesign1
spiceofdesign2
danrabbit

However, I would not suggest using Clutter/transparency because it impacts
performance severely (especially on older machines).

I know Xubuntu are and I would bet Lubuntu might be looking for a player to
use as default in their distributions. You should consider creating a
launchpad page and accepting some bugs. And set up a PPA (I can help with
that).

[Elementary-dev-community] Vedo - Lightweight mplayer2 front-end for elementary OS

2012-07-22 Thread Fatum Legion
Hi there,

I've been working on a lightweight mplayer2 front-end application over
the past few days for the elementary project. I'm not sure if this is
useful for anyone at the moment, but it's certainly useful for me. I
suppose this very notion is the start for many software projects!
Here's a screenshot of what I have right now:
http://www.fileize.com/files/ba55e68a/e5b/Screenshot_from_2012-07-09_09_33_37.png
Obviously the player works with any type of video that mplayer2 is
able to play, I was just testing different subtitle and language
options.

I suppose Vedo is yet-another-ambiguous-sounding software title, but
I've been pronouncing it like Vedō (Vay Dough).

Currently all of the core features are controllable with the keyboard:
   * Seeking
   * Opening a new video
   * Next / Previous Chapter
   * Volume control
   * Pausing
   * Full screen

Obviously I still need to add in a few more widgets (pausing,
stopping, volume, etc). I'm trying to think of good places to place
them while keeping the somewhat minimal interface. What do you guys
think? Also, are there any other not-so-obvious features that you
would like to see with an mplayer2 front-end?

Finally, I noticed that WingPanel uses the GLPv3, is this a good
license to use with the elementary project?

Thanks!
