IEC 27 and colors

1996-12-19 Thread Richard . Masek
A question was raised about color coding. Generally, caution labels were
to have a yellow background unless molded in.

However, Amendment 2 to IEC 1010-1 eliminated the color as long as the symbol
and outline are contrasting in color with the background.

Symbols and IEC 27

1996-12-19 Thread Jon Bertrand

 Hello Everyone!

 Question:

What does IEC 27 say about the color of the caution symbol?

I have a product that will need to have CE Mark (EMC and LVD).

The product label is two colors (red on white). I need to have a
caution symbol on a probe jack with 10 V max.

I've been told IEC says black on yellow for the symbol when it means
caution/hazard/avoid or black on white when it means see the manual.
I can only have red on white.

Is this an issue for the low voltage directive? Can it be red on
 white?

You will have to find out what the German equivalent
to TEMPEST testing, or have the equipment tested in
a TEMPEST lab if theat is acceptable to them.

Unless you have TEMPEST qualified people at your site,
specifically a TEMPEST engineer, I wish you luck.

I am not qualified in TEMPEST. Let that be clear right
now. Data pick up, the ability to gather intelligence
from the emissions of a device is primarily the concern
of TEMPEST and entirely different than any EMI/EMC
experience you may have.

Perhaps a TEMPEST qualified person out there would
care to comment if allowed?

Several of our customers have inquired about required CE testing on
systems that are powered by low voltage DC from CE approved power
supplies. They feel that additional tests are not required. I agree as

far as the Low Voltage Directive is concerned, but for the EMC directive,

I am advising that no testing be waived as compliance cannot be
guaranteed when configured with a noisy device. Have there been any
rulings on this issue? Any differing opinions?

I perfectly agree with Doug. Just take a look to the EN50082 where
immunity limits for DC Supply ports are specified .

EN50081 specifies emmision limits for supply. It does not make
anny difference wether they are AC or DC.
