RE: Poland and CE and Harmonics
John, I have consulted with Woody Strzelecki on this. Not being an expert in Polish I would not venture to discuss the differences between Bezpieczenstwo and Bjezopasnost. FYI: Russians have different word for Safety (if I am not mistaken, Bjezopasnost' in Russian has different connotation and better translated as Security - well, these linguistic nuances...). As to the core of the original question, the national safety mark B is still required in Poland as far as I know. Correct me if I am wrong. I would only speculate that they would have to give up on this mark once they join the EU. On the other hand, there are other safety national marks in Europe marketing people still love. RE: CE or CB ?
Requirements for the 'CE' mark are typically determined by Directives published as an Official Journal (OJ) of the European Union. The directive you seem to be referring to is the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC). This other directives are available online. TUV has single-day seminars addressing requirements of the 'CE' mark. RE: Poland and CE and Harmonics
Hi Lyons, Up to this point, Poland is still not a Membership of the EU. They will be the first wave candidate coutry to apply for EU Membership by the end of year 2001??. Placing on the Poland market the telecommunication equipment requiring mandatory conformity assessment with the essential requirements and without the required mark of conformity with the essential requirements is prohibited according to Ludomir Nowak (Head of Terminal Equipment Test Laboratory in Poland). Ludomir Nowak can be contacted as the following address. Ludomir Nowak Head of Terminal Equipment Test Laboratory Phone: (+4822) 5128173, Fax: (+4825) 5128146 Email: l.mo...@itl.waw.pl For safety, the Polish Standard PN-93/T-42107, being the Polish translation of IEC 60950 was applied. The test reports and certificates of conformity iwth IEC 60950 or EN 60950/EN 41003 issued by accredited European laboratories were regonized in the homologation procedure. For EMC a mumber of European standards ahve translated into Polish, getting PN-EN symbol in the standard denotation. Foreign certificates of conformity with the corresponding original standards were also accepted during homologation procedure. Hope the above information will be usefull to you. Good luck! Re: CE or CB ?
Dan, There is no CB mark. The CE marking is required for the EU, indicating compliance with all applicable EU Directives for the product involved. This is accepted by the 15 member states and by Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Several Eastern European countries are waiting to be accepted into the EU, and may begin accepting the CE mark prior to membership, viz. Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Having a product, typically ITE, assessed to IEC 60950 via the CB Scheme is one of several methods to satisfy the safety aspect of the CE marking, viz. the Low Voltage Directive. You can see more on the CB Scheme at www.cbscheme.org . First is the shielding properties of the shield as people have said this is very dependent upon the field impedance when you are in the near field. Second and no less important is the direct coupling between the shield and source conductors, the presence of the shield greatly affects the properties of the radiating source. With everything so close together there could well be resonances which result in windows in the shield at lower frequencies than you would expect. Some years ago I published a paper with my wife (Colin and Bronwyn Brench) on the effects of conductors close to apertures in a shield which illustrates this effect. The paper used very simple geometries not real ones and used a field source not a local one - but the premise was the same. It can be found in the EMC Symposium record - sorry I don't know what year - it won't help you directly, only show what behavior you might expect. I believe that to get an answer to your question you can only go so far analytically and that to get a detailed answer you will have to resort to a computational electromagnetics tool. It is important to accurately represent your EMI source, physically and electrically (I.e. source impedance) to get accurate results. good luck with this, Colin. -Original Message- From: Neven Pischl [mailto:npis...@cisco.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 12:16 PM To: emc-p...@majordomo.ieee.org; si-l...@silab.eng.sun.com Subject: Shielding Effectivness Question I would appreciate if anyone could let me know if there are any references (books, application notes, anythig ..) that deal with shielding efectivness in cases when a source is close to an (electrically small) opening in a shield (enclosure). In such a situation, the field will penetrate through the hole and leak even if the size is much smaller than the wavelength. I am particularly interested in situation when high-frequency source, such as a PCB edge or a component operating at (say) 1 GHz and above is in proximity of the venting holes, small gaps in the chassis etc. All references that I have deal with uniform plane wave propagating incident to a metal plane with a slot or hole, in which case it is enought o have electrically small size of the opening (e.g. lambda/10) to efficiently block any field propagation through the barrier. I can't find any useful reference that deals in any analytical way with the situation I am intersted in. I believe I might get some answers using some of the simulation programs, but at the moment I am more intersted in the analysis of the problem than in simulating it.
