Re: Safety testing after equipment repair

2003-05-21 Thread Barry Esmore
Australia has an actual standard which lists the tests and procedures for the
regular testing of equipment in use, and equipment that has been repaired. I
believe the standard is compulsory for building sites.

Subject: Safety testing after equipment repair

Management is asking me if we really need to perform certain safety
inspections and tests after the equipment is repaired. Of course, the answer
is that the inspections and/or tests are a prudent action to ensure
continued safety of the product. Then they ask "Does anyone else do it?"
Good question. Here is what we do. We intentionally tried to minimize the
amount of inspections and testing. The protocol consists of certain visual
inspections for such things as damaged insulation and missing fasteners; and
a hypot test is specified only if the safety critical part being changed
would be stressed by the test.

So, let me pose the question - Does your company perform specified safety
inspections and/or tests after repair of mains circuits?

Hello, Sylvia,

You do not need to put any number in the BSMI statement, but you do need to
put your BSMI registration code with the BSMI Mark on your regulatory label.

Hope it helps.

Sylvia,

You don't need put CERTIFICATE NUMBER in Taiwan BSMI Class A statement. The
Certificate Number only required to be included as part of BSMI Mark.

Before, BSMI issues different number for different product. However, the new
policy is changed. BSMI issues Grantee Code to Auth Dealer or Company as FCC.
Please check the new policy before you apply BSMI for your product.

Your procedure is exactly what I advise my clients to do, and of course
they always take my advice. (;-)

IIRC, that procedure is endorsed in an official or high-status
publication, but I certainly can't remember which one.

Re: ENV 50204

2003-05-21 Thread John Barnes

Joe,
ENV denotes a European Pre-Standard. ENV 50204 was called out by:
* EN 50082-1:1997, Electromagnetic compatibility - Generic immunity
standard Part 1: Residential, commercial and light industry
   (expires July 1, 2004).
* EN 50082-2:1995, Electromagnetic compatibility - Generic immunity
standard - Part 2: Industrial environment (expired April 1, 2002).

EN 50082-1:1997 is being replaced by EN 61000-6-1:2001, Electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-1: Generic standards - Immunity for
residential, commercial and light-industrial environments.

EN 50082-2:1995 has been replaced by EN 61000-6-2:1999 and EN
61000-6-2:2001, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: Generic
standards - Immunity for industrial environments

Joe,

A European Pre-Standard (ENV) is established as a prospective standard for
provisional application in technical fields where the innovation rate is
high (e.g. Information Technology).

You can find up-to-date information on which Harmonised standards for the
EMC Directive are still applicable and for how long on

We normally test to EN 61326. It has been some time since I looked at EN
