Isolation methods for surge immunity tests

2001-10-26 Thread Biggs, Daniel (IndSys, GEFanuc, NA)

We are testing a comm line for 61000-4-5 and are using a laptop PC for
support equipment (EUT will be talking to the PC). Do any of you know what
could be used to isolate the PC from the surge being applied to the EUT comm
line? Are opto-isolaters typically used for this purpose, and if so, can
anyone suggest a make/model for one of these?

Thanks,
DB

I am looking for a short description of ENV 50121-5. What does it cover?
What tests does it specify? What limits does it specify for tests?

Thanks,

EN 50021 question

2001-05-23 Thread Biggs, Daniel (IndSys, GEFanuc, NA)

Greetings,

In 1999, pR EN 50021 went to EN 50021. My question is...why have the
spacings for Pollution degree 2 been changed between the preliminary version
to the adopted version of 50021. The spacing requirements seem to have
increased.

Greetings,

I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with this standard and/or
know of a coating that can be used on PCBs to protect them from potentially
corrosive gases and airborne contaminents. The standard specifically deals
with process measurement and control systems.

RE: Is Your Head Clamp CE Marked?

Subject: Is Your Head Clamp CE Marked?

Hi All,

Happened to see the X-Files last night and noted that the clamp used to hold
Multer's head still during brain surgery had a CE mark prominently displayed
on the forehead section. Makes me wonder, is CE marking of brains coming
next? Would mine pass? Or will it need a major re-design to become
compliant? Not sure I want the answers to those questions.

Operator Interface Displays

Does anyone know of a standard that talks about the testing requirements on
a display/keyboard interface. I am interested in knowing what kind of ESD
tests to perform on it. Are contact, air and indirect discharge necessary?
Does anyone have experience with Operator Interfaces? Are there particular
levels that they have to meet?
