[PSES] IEC/EN 61010-1, Ed.3 and non-detachable power cords
Dear Group, Consider a product that is intended to be connected to mains power via a non- detachable power cord that is fed into the equipment through a cable gland (compression bushing) fitted to the equipment enclosure. Neither the power cord or the cable gland are supplied by the manufacturer and the specific parts to be used are the responsibility of the installer, taking into account the general safety requirements included in the equipment manual, the local safety regulations covering the installation and availability of parts. Given that no power cable or cable gland is shipped with the product, for the equipment to be approved under IEC/EN 61010-1 Ed.3 are the requirements of Clause 6.10.2.2 Cord anchorage applicable? Re: [PSES] RoHS - an EU view
Group, Given that the adhesive is unlikely to contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, the question is: Does it contain either Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), or Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) at concentrations greater than 0.1% by weight of the homogeneous material? I understand that both are flame retardants and used in plastics. Further the need for mandatory EU RoHS (2002/95/EC) compliance only kicks in when the adhesive is used in certain types of electrical or electronic equipment. Another issue to be considered as far as the EU and adhesives is associated with the impact of the REACH Regulations (1907/2006 (as amended)). Amongst other things, these regulations include lists of substances whose use in products and their manufacture is either restricted, or requires relevant information to be supplied to end users. REACH includes many more substances than the six in RoHS, and the restrictions/requirements are not limited to electrical and electronic equipment. Garry, When I did a similar test some time ago, also with helium, I used a non- electrochemical oxygen sensor (details on request) to monitor the amount of air that had re-entered the battery enclosure rather than the helium left. Testing for dry joints
Dear Chris, If I remember correctly from my days in Britain's National Coal Board, thermal imagers and other temperature sensors were used to check cable joints underground. Poor connections had a higher resistance, and were thus hotter, than their neighbours. I don't know whether such a test methodology is feasible in your case.
