Re: [PSES] wireless approvals matrix

2012-11-03 Thread Scott Douglas

Bob,

The IEEE Servers have been experiencing problems with power outages and
what not since super storm Sandy roared through New York and New Jersey.
It may be a while before order is restored and all is back online.
Please have patience while IEEE works to get things working again.

RE: ITE Approvals Matrix (for small low power products)

2003-09-10 Thread Barker, Neil

Alex,

I have just taken one of our products along this route.
To answer your questions, yes you are right in your general
conclusion, but I would make the following comments;

1. While all these countries standards have CISPR 22 as their parentage,
it is best to make sure that your test house references all the National
standards numbers in their reports.

2. An IEC CB report will maximise your international coverage, but for the
US and Canada your report needs to reference the common standard UL/CSA
60950, and if I understood a recent thread on this forum correctly, you need
to have your safety test and assessment carried out by an NRTL. Again, the
common parentage of the standards make a one-stop assessment fairly
straightforward. The only issue is that the IEC report needs to be in the
prescribed format for the CB scheme, and you have to pay extra to BEAB to
ratify the report.

3. I believe that you will need to conform to the relevant Ethernet or USB
protocols for your device to work universally with these interfaces. There
are certainly standards for USB 1.0 and 2.0, presumably also similar for
Ethernet.

 Hi Group,

May I first of all thank all of you who contributed to my
 query. As always I
got a very comprehensive response from obviously a very
 experienced and
talented bunch. I have also contributed more information through other
sources. I have to admit that I did not realise the
 complexity of getting,
what looks like a simple ITE product, Approved for worldwide useage.

I have attached the Matrix, duly modified. There are still a
 few oustanding
items and it is never too late for someone to try and provide more
information. I feel this document will require several modifications,
including a back-up text to further explain the applicable
 standards dates,
before it is considered complete but lets see what
 transpires. If you have
any disagreements with the updated Matrix, please feel free
 to contact me.
Eventually, I am sure the Matrix will help many members of this group.

 Further Questions
 1. It seems it would be better to have the products tested
 against CISPR22
Class B as this would cover all the countries, particularly
 the ones listed
on this Matrix, one stop test and fee (Countries are Self
 Declaration or
 Verification)?
 2. Similarly, it would seem that it would be better to have
 the products
tested against IEC60950 with the Country deviations and
 obtain a CB Report,
as this would cover all the countries, particularly the ones
 listed on this
Matrix, one stop test and fee! For USA/Canada I could use
 this CB Report to
 help gain UL/CSA 60950?
 3. No Ethernet nor USB standards to meet (Regulatory or
 non-Regulatory)?

 Notes:
I decided to leave out the various dates from the Matrix so
 that I could
simplify it for my Quality Group (I will have the information
 and it will be
myself who will need to get the Approvals actioned anyhow!).

RE: Approvals Matrix

2003-09-09 Thread Kevin Richardson

Alex,

I think your matrix is a great idea but for Australia and NZ (Australia in
particular) it is not that simple to cover all the compliance issues for
your product categories in a matrix this simple.

Joe Randolph was correct about PSTN standards for Australia and NZ (AS/ACIF
S002 and PTC 200). Concerning safety, ACA TS001:1997 is the present
requirement. This should change very soon however to allow compliance with
either AS/NZS 60950:2000 or TS001. AS/NZS 60950:2000 = IEC 60950 +
Australian national deviations. There is likely to be a brief transitional
period where compliance with either standard is acceptable then TS001 will
be withdrawn and compliance with AS/NZS 60950:2000 will be required.

For Australia and NZ there is a large amount of information required to be
added concerning your major categories:
- If Modem - ISDN
- If Wireless - Short Range - Bluetooth
- If Wireless - Short Range - 433 MHz
- If Wireless - Long Range - GSM
- If Wireless - Long Range - CDMA

Unfortunately I can not spare the time here to populate your matrix for you
for Australia and NZ. Sorry.
If you really want to work on adding more information for Australia and NZ
please contact me direct.

Hi Alex:

Just a technicality, but TBR 21 is no longer a regulatory requirement for
analog PSTN equipment in the EU. It was formally withdrawn on April 8, 2000
when the RTTE directive was adopted. Under the RTTE directive, analog PSTN
products are only subject to the applicable safety and EMC requirements.

Many manufacturers have been uncomfortable with having no regulations
whatsoever for the parameters formerly covered by TBR 21, so they have
continued to self-impose TBR 21 compliance. However, TBR 21 has no regulatory
significance.

You may be interested to know that last month ETSI issued an updated document
that is intended to replace TBR 21 as an advisory standard. The document
number is TS 103 021, and it is available for download on the ETSI site (in
three parts). In this document, some of the TBR 21 requirements have been
revised and some new requirements have been added. Thus, if you want to show
an advisory standard in your matrix, you should probably list TS 103 021
instead of TBR 21.

The current analog PSTN spec for Australia is AS/ACIF S002:2001. For New
Zealand the current spec is PTC 200 (1997).

The safety requirements for all of the countries in your chart are based on
IEC 60950, but each country has their own version with its own name. In
Europe it is EN 60950, in the USA and Canada it is a binational standard often
referred to as UL/CSA 60950 (but technically UL 60950 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.
60950-00), and in Australia I believe it is (finally) AS/NZS 60950.

Alex

I modified some parts but I am sure not to be complete.

GSM is our special area and there are differences between regulatory testing
and testing needed to get the access to the carrier networks. This testing
is not covered for US and Canada in the table and the device has to be
approved by the PTCRB before the carriers start their own testing.

This structure is to complicated to be explained by a short email. If you
need more information their, I am sure our GSM experts can help you.
