Thanks. I remembered I had to do something, but it was such an easy fix I
didn't remember exactly what it was I had to do!

Yep, Xylotex's three channel board has step and dir swapped compared to
the "standard" EMC pinout. But thats easy to fix in HAL. EMC2's sample
stepper config comes with "standard-pinout.hal" and xylotex-pinout.hal",
and all you have to do is invoke one or the other from the ini file.

You can do any pinout no matter how bizarre if you edit hal files.

Re: [Emc-users] Low end stepper driver controller?

2007-05-26 Thread Javid Butler
Many small drives for that current rating are designed around the Allegro
3977, which is a single chip driver with an integrated translator. It can
handle up to 2.5 Amps at 35V with appropriate heatsinking. If you really
want to roll your own you can download the spec sheet from
www.allegromicro.com but the last time I googled "allegro 3977" at least one
kit supplier came up. If I remember correctly they also sold bare PCBs.

Any 3977 based product should work with EMC. Xylotex makes drives based
around the 3977 but they have discontinued their single channel unit in
favor of a 3 and 4 channel units. I've got a machine with a Xylotex
3-channel drive that runs fine with EMC, but I think I had to do something
with the pinout. It's been a while but I think I had to swap some pins
around.

I hope that helps!

Javid

Jack,

I have drivers for bi-polar motors. See:

And just to be fair, you should look at the Xylotex & AlienCNC drivers. You
will also find a number of other bi-polar drivers on eBay.

A better approach for a control panel would be to use halui. See the
integrator's manual which describes how to use it. The manual may
be slightly out of date regarding the available inputs, so use
halcmd/halshow to examine them on a running EMC2.

This should have said "choose a stepover of 10".

[Emc-users] Control Panel for Axis

2007-05-26 Thread Jack Ensor
I plan on wiring momentary push button switches in parallel with the
appopriate short cut keys on the keyboard. One of the problems I see is
that of providing for the 2 key combination required for the Home-All
function. I assume that the key assignment can be changed in software
and hope someone can give me insight into how this could be done.

You probably created a new project in Nero and added the file you
downloaded. Instead, you should select "burn image" (or similar) from
the recorder menu item. In the file dialog that appears, you should
 then
select the image you downloaded from linuxcnc.org.
