Re: [Emc-users] syncing two motors to one axis

2009-04-09 Thread Rob Jansen
Len,

you give me too much credits.
I don't know that much about the HAL and to be honest, I am just able to
understand the HAL files that I got as samples.
Did this all with a bit of standard logic gates since my PC does not have
enough I/O to capture all the signals.
But my 5i20 and 7i43 Mesa cards are about to arrive so next week I should
be able to start converting one system from 2.2 to 2.3 and start
implementing all these extras in HAL.

I'll post my progress over the next few weeks; I've leeched enough from this
list. Time to contribute ;-)

Cheers,

Rob

[Emc-users] NAMES Photo display update [was EMC at NAMES 2009--banner & update]

2009-04-09 Thread Greg Michalski
Chris - I certainly enjoy donating my time and some resources. But thank
you for the recognition. Whether we admit it or not, and regardless of our
motives, it's human nature to enjoy and desire the recognition. :)

I'm almost done with the photo board layouts and am researching the printing
costs and alternatives - I think I have my boss coddled enough to bribe some
prints out of him limiting out-of-pocket costs to just the foam core backer
board and a fresh can of 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive.

I will be posting these hi-res images/layouts for display and once the
location is worked out will let everyone here know so if people can't make
it to NAMES they'll be viewable. Since they are on the foam core they are
easily stored and I can make them available to any other events (shows,
workshops, etc.) in the future where people may find them useful.

I have a few layouts left to design and want to submit the layouts to the
couple of commercial entities for looking over so they are acceptable to
them - wouldn't want to have them inaccurate/junky looking and reflect
poorly on their enterprises (Jon Elson and Stuart are the couple that come
to mind - I think there were one or two others who indicated commercial use
and provided their business names). Just need a good pic of Stuart's Cinci
:) Sadly enough the board for my own machine is the one I am most behind on
- I have the &#...@$ pics but have concentrated on getting everyone else's
layouts done first!

Thanks again! Hope to see at least a few mailing list names here in Toledo
4/18-19.

Re: [Emc-users] PCI Parallel port

2009-04-09 Thread Greg Michalski
Will - Where about are you located at? With Chris' comment in mind - I've
got a single port Netmos based PCI LPT that is going to be swapped shortly
for a dual port Netmos (once I get over to my local shop _ I give them
occasional business over Newegg since I don't want them to go under). I'd
be willing to part with the single unit for a steal (depending on your
location that is - if shipping is more than the board's cost...) Feel free
to contact me off list.

I don't know all the differences, but I do know that there are some
canned cycles in Mach that EMC2 doesn't have, like G10/G11 (for a
circular pocket or some such). If the post more or less uses G0-G3 and
few canned cycles, the code should be pretty close. Both Mach3 and EMC2
are based on the same interpreter, but the split happened a long time ago :)

Re: [Emc-users] syncing two motors to one axis

2009-04-09 Thread Len Shelton
Jon and Rob,

You guys obviously know a lot more about the inner working of HAL than I. I
am still no closer to understanding what lines of code I need to put into my
HAL file.

Can you please translate this simple boolean text notation...

home_en1 = dir OR NOT home1
home_en2 = dir OR NOT home2
step_1 = step AND home_en1
step_2 = step AND home_en2
home = ( ( home1 AND home2 ) AND NOT dir ) OR ( ( home 1 OR home2 )
AND dir )

...to actual HAL syntax.

Thanks a bunch, really.

No, actually I do not believe any new HAL components are needed. You
need an and gate to detect when both home switches have been tripped.
This AND output sets a flip-flop. The flip-flop is cleared when you
start the home sequence. When the FF is clear, an and gate stops each
side of the gantry from moving when that home switch trips. When the FF
is set, all move commands pass through.

OK, your homing is not going to be as precise with this, but it can
still be plenty good enough for a hobby level machine. it is also
simpler, as there is no complex homing sequence to use encoder index
pulses. I'm less familiar with the internal hook-up of step generators
to the parallel port, but what you want to do is stop the first side
that hits home, and not terminate the homing sequence until BOTH sides
have hit their home switches. Sounds quite simple.

[Emc-users] Kinematic and axis assignment

2009-04-09 Thread Gerhard Gleixner

hi everybody,

I started yesterday working with EMC2, seems to be a real great software.
Installation on top of Xubuntu hardy was very smoothly using your installation
script. Stepper motors are already moving.

After studying some threads here, I created also my first kinematic module
using comp. Very nice.

Now there is a little challenge where I would like to have your advice. The
machine to control is a hot wire cutting machine. It needs two pairs of axis
with bipod kinematic each and one turntable. My plan is to use X,Y and U,V for
the bipods and A for the turntable.

In the ini file I write COORDINATES X,Y,U,V,A. In AXIS, I see, when I switch to
"world" view the order X,Y,A,U,V. Seems axis don't care in which order I write
the axis in ini. Thats a minor problem. More important: Up to now I was not
able to "skip" joints. I must write AXES = 8, and I see in joint view axes 0-7
as position display, but axis 0,1,3,U,V (note:U,V shall read 6,7) selectable in
manual control. The system seems to know that I only use these joints, but
still displays position for all axis. And itexpects ALL axis to be homed. But I
cannot home what is not selectable. Also there is some confusion with axis U,V
( I have still the trivkin active), seems not assigned to joints 6,7.

In another thread, I read that joints 3-5 are somehow angular, all other
linear. Is that still true ? or are they absolutely equal ? How would you
assign axis ?

I hope this was not too much confusing. maybe someone can help a little.

Gerd

[Emc-users] EMC2.3.0beta2 installaiton help

2009-04-09 Thread John Guenther
Good morning;

I have EMC 2.2.8 Hardy Heron installed from the live CD, this is working
just fine. I decided to install the 2.3 beta, downloaded the source and
attempted to build it. I appear to be missing some packages needed to
build it. The current error is:

checking for glib... configure: error: no -- required until somebody
makes modbus optional

My question is what packages to I need to add to have the necessary
development environment?

Thanks.

[Emc-users] Thc300 conf, emc 2.2.8, updown.0.reset pin does not exist

2009-04-09 Thread Sasa Vilic
I have updated my computer today trought update manager to version
2.2.8 and downloaded new configuration plasma-thc (thc300). When I
started this configuratio, I got error message, that updown.0.reset
pin does not exist (thc300.hal). If I comment this line, and later
open emc configuratio, I can see updown component, but it does not
have pin "reset". It seems that I have older version of module, or
this version of module was not included in 2.2.8 release.

Does anyone know any solution?

Thank you,
Sasa Vilic

Re: [Emc-users] Bug in stepconf?

2009-04-09 Thread Peter blodow
Steve,
I installed Hardy right from the live CD in January. A friend and I did
this on three different hard disks to make sure and had the same result.
