GcodeTools plugin for inkscape will do it. Works perfectly, I use it
quite often for engraving text or cutting wood.

[Emc-users] Manual velocity jog

2014-04-16 Thread Dr . Mclem
Dear users,

I am retrofitting a small mill and want to create a manual mode as well as the
cnc mode but using the same hardware. I have jog wheels and analogue handles
already interfaced into Hal but have two problems I am struggling with.
1) on my count encoded wheel I want fine control (say 0.001) but as I spin the
wheel I would like the motion to be smooth. At the moment using axis-jog it
executes many 0.001 steps with a stop in between.
2) I would also like to use an analogue input to drive the velocity of an axis
directly for more rapid manual movement but can't see how to do this with the
jog pins.

Any suggestions on both of these would be great.

Many thanks.

Matthew

Looking at the svg version mentally subtracting all the anchor points, it
looks good. Unfortunately, the .ngc file, loaded into yesterdays
Linuxcnc-2.5.3, exceeds the envelop of my machine by about 12 meters. So
all I see is the entry move even when I shrink the backplot as small as it
will go. I assume there are scale factors in it, but I haven't played with
it just yet. I will, and will report back sometime today.

Thank you.

You probably want to drive the jog-velocity pin, and then set jog
selected. I am not sure if you can do wheel jogging and analogue
jogging at the same time.
The SimpleRemotePendant wiki entry has much of the info.

The ilowpass component can do this smoothing for you. Put it between
the encoder of your jog wheel and the axis.*.jog-counts pins.

We unfortunately don't have a good sample config that shows how to do
this in simulation (ie, without special hardware hooked up).

There's an example in the 'univpwm' sample config, look in the file
named pendant.hal.

Also check out shuttlexpress.hal, which does something similar (it's in
the 'common' directory of the sample configs, and not used by any ini
file that i know of).

 2) I would also like to use an analogue input to drive the velocity of an
axis directly for more rapid manual movement but can't see how to do this
 with the jog pins.

For this I recommend using halui. The jog speed would go into
halui.jog-speed pin, and then the go buttons would be connected to
halui.jog.*.plus and halui.jog.*.minus.

For a pretty clear example of this, look at the halui_pyvcp sample
config. The shuttlexpress.hal file also does variable-speed continuous
jogging using the halui method.

GcodeTools needs help, several lines of bogus data in that file. I deleted
the double z up lines, and several others with obviously bogus data that
would have plowed a ditch many meters long.

End result in the lcnc backplot is usable, but that isn't a great font and
must have been italicized. The top of the capital U is overlapped and
completely closed for instance.

But the fact that it was do-able give me more confidence that I can do it
when I am ready to. Thanks very much for the demo.

Where do I put those two gcodetools files I got from the wiki so Inkscape
can see them?

Again, thank you yann jautard!

This needs encoder ABZ?

And used, it may need repair. I did buy a couple used ones on fleabay,
both toasted before they went in the box to head my way. Lost about 80
bucks, no reply from the seller's.

But its sure an idea to be patient about. I'll sure keep it in mind.

Thanks Sam

30A20ACT

xx is the peak current so the above is 30A
yy is max voltage so the above is 200v (you add a 0 to the end)
AC means it has a powersupply integrated into it. (takes ac directly -

yeah there was some mistakes, and I kept the default font in inkscape.
Not the nicer one, right.

But it took me approx. 2 minutes to produce the NGC file using inkscape
and gcodetools. It was more intended as a proof of concept than a
usable file.

I often use it for several works, like engraving text or cutting wood,
and it works quite well, exepted some minor bugs like the ones you
corrected manually.
And gcodetool developpement is quite active and bugs are corrected fast.

Here I just put the text around a circle, but you can put your text
along any sort of line in ikscape. If you need sinusoidal text, you will
get it :)
And you can use whatever TTF font you want.

GcodeTools needs help, several lines of bogus data in that file. I deleted

End result in the lcnc backplot is usable, but that isn't a great font and

But the fact that it was do-able give me more confidence that I can do it

Where do I put those two gcodetools files I got from the wiki so Inkscape

 Again, thank you yann jautard!

The help manual seems to indicate the keyboard should work, but I can't
make it work for text entry, and because I have no text selected, no apply
button for the font size selector ever appears.

First app ever that doesn't like this wireless logitech k360 keyboard.
Either that, or I need to read the whole thing in dead tree format, several

I'll get it, but the startup learning curve is vertical...

In theory LinuxCNC supports almost any kinematics, but some need more
work than others, up to and including writing a kinematics routine.

There is a new lineardeltakins in one of the experimental branches
of LinuxCNC, but it does not appear to be scheduled for the 2.6
release. (this doesn't mean that you couldn't choose to use it with
any of the other versions)

The standard kinematics modules are here:
http://git.linuxcnc.org/gitweb?p=linuxcnc.git;a=tree;f=src/emc/kinematics;h=4469319c89b54dc476806c9b91a2d423c6dc8a7b;hb=refs/heads/2.6

It is conceivable that genhexkins is general enough to be configured
for a delta robot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2STkBhUiKwg

Shows that not only is it possible, but that it has been done. Armed
with that knowledge googling for deltakins leads to:

Now that sounds like a cool project. Post pix of the array storage, and
the mill as work proceeds. I've not bit the bullet for any solar yet, but
ready kilowatt has gone on strike for 19 days at a time several times over
the last 6 years, so I did put in a 20kw nat gas generator last fall.

Might go solar if it ever gets down to a penny a watt, but thats not going
to happen as long as Obummer is messing with it, and locally (WV) we have
no rule about selling power back to the utils either. They would rather
burn coal make more acid rain.

True, and of coarse I have all that but whats the proper height of the bolt
down L bend? I've checked the wikipedia articles, and they do not note
that height for either std or lp.

And while rummaging in the junkbox today on the extremely odd chance, I
came across a breakout cable for one of those broken moschip dual PP cards,
also with a FH bracket, so now I need two of the LP's. I will probably make
the 2nd once I have one in my hands.

Something I did for the local carpenter with the same toolchain :

How about a not my problem design?

Not my problem in Polish is Nie moj cyrk, nie moje malpy. Literally
not my circus, not my monkey.

With the special characters, unless your email doesn't do Unicode
Nie mój cyrk, nie moje małpy

I've also seen it not my farm, not my cow or not my henhouse, not my
chicken - but it's funnier with monkeys.

You can buy a nice brass one with baked enamel artwork by Howard Tayler,
only $10.
