[Emc-users] Manual velocity jog
Dear users, I am retrofitting a small mill and want to create a manual mode as well as the cnc mode but using the same hardware. I have jog wheels and analogue handles already interfaced into Hal but have two problems I am struggling with. 1) on my count encoded wheel I want fine control (say 0.001) but as I spin the wheel I would like the motion to be smooth. At the moment using axis-jog it executes many 0.001 steps with a stop in between. 2) I would also like to use an analogue input to drive the velocity of an axis directly for more rapid manual movement but can't see how to do this with the jog pins. Any suggestions on both of these would be great. Many thanks. At the moment using axis-jog it executes many 0.001 steps with a stop in between. The ilowpass component can do this smoothing for you. Put it between the encoder of your jog wheel and the axis.*.jog-counts pins. We unfortunately don't have a good sample config that shows how to do this in simulation (ie, without special hardware hooked up). There's an example in the 'univpwm' sample config, look in the file named pendant.hal. Also check out shuttlexpress.hal, which does something similar (it's in the 'common' directory of the sample configs, and not used by any ini file that i know of). 2) I would also like to use an analogue input to drive the velocity of an axis directly for more rapid manual movement but can't see how to do this with the jog pins. For this I recommend using halui. The jog speed would go into halui.jog-speed pin, and then the go buttons would be connected to halui.jog.*.plus and halui.jog.*.minus. For a pretty clear example of this, look at the halui_pyvcp sample config. The shuttlexpress.hal file also does variable-speed continuous jogging using the halui method. -- Sebastian Kuzminsky -- Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book Graph Databases is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their applications. gene, ive been ogling one of jon elsons servo controllers for my treadmill motored mill . but alas i want to do that upgrade after the 1000 $ to ship the mill to home in missouri. it seems almost purpose made for the application. i have been waiting to get the mill there as i have been building solar panels and i think that it would be pretty cool to make chips from sun power and there is not near as much sun here in upstate mew york . good luck gene jeremy youngs -- Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book Graph Databases is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their applications. Post pix of the array storage, and the mill as work proceeds. I've not bit the bullet for any solar yet, but ready kilowatt has gone on strike for 19 days at a time several times over the last 6 years, so I did put in a 20kw nat gas generator last fall. Might go solar if it ever gets down to a penny a watt, but thats not going to happen as long as Obummer is messing with it, and locally (WV) we have no rule about selling power back to the utils either. They would rather burn coal make more acid rain. Cheers, Gene -- There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. I've checked the wikipedia articles, and they do not note that height for either std or lp. And while rummaging in the junkbox today on the extremely odd chance, I came across a breakout cable for one of those broken moschip dual PP cards, also with a FH bracket, so now I need two of the LP's. I will probably make the 2nd once I have one in my hands. -- Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book Graph Databases is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their applications. And gcodetool developpement is quite active and bugs are corrected fast. Here I just put the text around a circle, but you can put your text along any sort of line in ikscape. If you need sinusoidal text, you will get it :) And you can use whatever TTF font you want. Something I did for the local carpenter with the same toolchain : How about a not my problem design?
