I was taught to work in Radius mode, but changed to Diameter mode as

parts.

An offset of 1mm will take 2mm off the diameter of the work - same as on
a manual lathe.

Only thing to remember is offsets should always be absolute
measurements. Tool offsets and touch should be taken care of
internally by the controller.

As for arcs - I always use CAM so never thought about it and it could
catch you out.

Obviously, during rapids the tool shouldn't be engaged with the work, but
most controls just have one feed rate override knob. Now you have to have
2 knobs? Not sure how I feel about that. When I'm not sure of my program,
I twiddle the feed rate knob quite a bit.

They do - but on commercial controls feedrate knob only affects feed,
not rapids.

On Fanuc systems there is usually a separate switch that says Rapid
Override on the control panel that is marked 100%, 50%, 25% and the
fourth position F1 - F1 is customisable via a system parameter but most
installers set it at 10%. Some of the later controls, it's on the touch
screen.

I've never seen a commercial control that changes both.

Unfortunately Stepconf creates a new config every time, rather than editing
the existing config.
Steconf reads data from the .stepconf file, rather than parsing the INI
file.

Changing it to parse the INI file would be a big plus, but a big job too.

 in
stepconf that it did not overwrite the DISPLAY=XXX with DISPLAY=axis.

Unfortunately Stepconf creates a new config every time, rather than editing
 the existing config.
Steconf reads data from the .stepconf file, rather than parsing the INI
 file.

Changing it to parse the INI file would be a big plus, but a big job too.

I had one of these (but with the bull gear cover, and original lamp) for a
number of years, but sold it when I moved 1/2 way around the world.

As a shaper addict, I've kept it down to just a Drummond hand shaper, but
truth be told, a CNC mill is much more fun!

I don't think you can, Charles.

Which is why, once the basics have been set by stepconfig, any further

If your motor does not move, I would trace the signals (with halmeters for
example) that drive the motor. For example the PID output should generate a
velocity command based on the ferror (and commanded velocity). This velocity
command should cause the stepgen to generate steps at a rate dependent on the
PID output (if the stepgen is enabled), so maybe the first step is to look at
the PID output

I've never seen a commercial control that changes both.

I totally agree with your comment but that brings me back to the
original problem.
Where is the rapid override in axis/linuxcnc ?
I am afraid my bollocks are not big enough to prove a program in
v2.6,nor can i just shut my eyes and hope for the best.
So no upgrades for now.

I've not upgraded or used linuxcnc for a while as anything I'm waiting
for has not been implemented, maybe never will :(

Fortunately other alternatives are available.

Precisely my thoughts on the subject, but try telling that to an MD when

2014-06-06 Thread Leonardo Marsaglia
Nice to hear you're ok, I hope you get better everyday :).

Today was a little strange day for me with things related to health. The
father of my brother's wife (I don't know the short term for that) was on a
surgery because he had an hernia that was compromising his intestines,
fortunately everything went alright. It was quite a challenge because he
has really weak lungs, since he smoked almost his entire life. Anyway, it
seems he's ok now.

On my own, I did a stupid thing with a press drill today and ended with a
heavy hit on the side of my head, just over my ear. Fortunately, the hit
only knock me a little, and I have a little skin cut but It's more tedius
than severe. I went' to the doctor and after some rays they told me I have
a rock head, so I guess I'm alright.

Anyway, this is about you, so the best for you and hope you can get to work
as soon as possible! I think that an important thing on recovery, and even
in life in general is to have something to DO and off course enjoy that
something. Guys like you are always on the run doing a lot of nice stuff,
so keep on with that and certainly you're going to be ok! :)

Yup, excrement happens. I did have one very interesting conversation
during my stay with all those tubes stuck in me. A Texas girl of
obviously Chinese origin was my head nurse one evening. When I got my
first look in her eyes, I had no problems understanding that I was seeing
a set of eyes in front of an IQ well north of 150. I could have spent the
rest of my stay there absorbing that. Its not often that I encounter such
an individual that matches or exceeds my 147.

This lists occupants surprise me too. Several here I'd guess are 150+.

WHOA! That does sound like the most serious level of embolism!
