I may even have such a critter. Possibly more than 1 even. I still have
some decent sized metric stuff that I haven't made up yet. As I move to
bigger grub screws, I am fine tuning the drill and tap depth so the grub
screw has become pretty self-locking over the last half turn to a solid
grip.

That seems odd.

Thanks Peter. I'm of the opinion based on the evidence, that at the
estate sale after I'm gone (if the missus outlives me and I don't get
off my duff an write a will), they will still be new. Since I can't buy
the bolt without learning french, the chances of needing to tap that
size hole are somewhere to the right of .00squat. :)

Classic Bugattis use a lot of M7.

The exhaust of the Puch Maxi moped has the baffle retained by an M9 nut.

So if you want an M9 nut try a Puch dealer, as they have a tendency to
vibrate loose and spit the baffle out onto the road.

Metric bolts and nuts only use a few different thread sizes. This is
really a good thing and make using metric nuts and bolt easy. But if you
look around there are many metric threads that are not in nuts and bolts
just the common ones I've run into are the thin ring nuts used to secure a
toggle switch to a panel and some adjustments in cars and other machines
where the threads need to be finer than normal. And then in eletronics
there are many special purpose threads mainly because the female part is in
some thin material

I just had to buy a 12x1.25 tap set, one taper and one plug type. I had to
cut threads for a proximity sensor.

Gene,
there are DIN threads that are printed in bold type in the DIN list, the
rest is not recommended fur use. Such include M2.3, M3.5, M4.5, M7, M9,
M11, M14 etc. Except for M3.5 which is widely used by electricians for
cable fasteners in plugs etc., they are not used by industry and
therefore the corresponding taps and thread cutters are not included in
standard sets. The French use M7 in car applications but they are widely
known for their queerness ;-)
The reason is that for those unusual sizes there are partially no
strength recommendations.

Greetings all;

As I work my way thru the smaller taps in some of my older tap kits, I'm
finding a puzzle. I haven't been able, locally or online, to by an odd

Is this a conspiracy, and if so whats the point?

Puzzles indeed.
