Re: [Emc-users] Faro Arm
In light of retrofitting a controller for one; some of those have electric heaters installed along the arm, that keep each section slightly warm. Presumably this helps to mitigate errors caused by thermal expansion/contraction. > On Aug 17, 2018, at 7:18 PM, Andy Pugh wrote: > > > >> On 17 Aug 2018, at 15:00, Stuart Stevenson wrote: >> >> I purchased a Faro Arm Gold many years ago for a particular project. Re: [Emc-users] Faro Arm
I purchased a Faro Arm Gold many years ago for a particular project. The claimed resolution was either +- .004 or .006. Horrible. Could not use it for the project. The new ones seem to be much better. An old cheap one would probably be useful only as a learning device and not for use as an inspection tool. Even the new ones need special handling techniques to return accurate data. On Fri, Aug 17, 2018, 7:00 AM John Figie wrote: > Yes figuring out the encoder interface would be the most work. Re: [Emc-users] Faro Arm
Yes figuring out the encoder interface would be the most work. It dosent look like there are enough pins for 6 axes of sinusoidal quadrature signals plus index. So it could be all digital interface. I wonder what the typical acuracy and resolution is? Yeah now that I think about it more it seems like quite a project. Would probably have to disassemble a joint to see the encoder. Re: [Emc-users] Faro Arm
Andy, I live about 1.5 hours from Madison. I had to look up what a Faro arm is. It looks interesting and may be a better way to probe an object than with a touch probe in the milling machine. Why do think this is "quite a project"? It seems straightforward to me. I built my own touch probe a few years ago to copy a gun stock for a friend. Then milled some copies out of walnut. I am interested in finding what you want for it. [Emc-users] Faro Arm
Does anyone have a use for an old Faro arm with no driver PC or software? I bought it on eBay because the price was good, but it is in the US and I don't seem to be able to find a way to get it to the UK for less than twice the price I paid for it. The arm is currently in Madison, WI in the garage of a friend. My plan was to reverse-engineer the encoder data and then use trivkins for the kinematics. It was always going to be quite a project, so don't expect to be ever be actually _using_ the arm. -- atp "A motorcycle is a bicycle with a pandemonium attachment and is designed for the especial use of mechanical geniuses, daredevils and lunatics." — George Fitch, Atlanta Constitution Newspaper, 1916 -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
