Re: [Emc-users] European EMC-fest

2008-08-21 Thread Kai Schaeffer
Hm, this thread seems to be stuck a little bit. I am new here and I even
don't use EMC until now. But a conference would be great for us to learn
for our future projects. So please do it. :-) I know, contribution is
the essence of the OpenSource world so what I could offer to support it
is a location. We have a conference room for up to 50 persons (it could
be split if necessary) and enough space to setup demonstrating machines.
The big disadvantage of our location is, that we don't have own EMC
machines. We are located in Berlin, what is always worth a visit. :-)

I would like to attend. I don't know if I have anything to offer.

Is there any idea about a location? I don't know if there are
area's where a lot of emc users are concentrated?

For beginners it might be interesting to learn something about the
different ways tot retrofit a machine. Making it visible what does
and doesn't work and why a certain setup is better or cheaper. For
instance a stepper motor wich is too weak for the load, or a screw
which is too long for a certain speed. Seeing things makes you
remember it more easily. OTOH, this only makes sense if you can
get visitors who might start with EMC.
For current users some HAL tutorials, presentations, trainings or
hands on sessions can be interesting.

Is there an estimate about the number of visitors you can expect?

 Dirk

Great Kai, all ideas are welcome in a brainstorm!

I'm a little bit surprised though that my question died out so quickly. I
thought I would get more input.

[Emc-users] European EMC-fest

2008-08-04 Thread Sven Wesley
Hi all,

A while back I promised to investigate how a European EMC-fest/meeting could
be arranged. I have some ideas and suggestions, but it would be great to
have as many influences as possible and that means from all of you! Please
throw in your ideas or suggestions!

Possible location?
Is there a machine to CNC-ify or retrofit?
Topics for classes?
Possible teachers or do you have something to present?
Experiences from other EMC-gatherings?

It's brainstorm time!

I live in the US but i'll be in Berlin the week of October 13 for the CCSDS.
If the EMC Fest is nearby and at a time when I can slip away from the
conference I'd like to try to go. I can't bring any equipment but I could give
an introductory talk on HAL and RTAI drivers.
