[Emc-users] Hal tutorial- restoring hal configuration?

2007-02-13 Thread jensor
I am in the process of becoming familiar with and learning EMC2. In going
through the HAL tutorial I ran into a problem in paragraph 2.3.6 Restoring the
HAL configuration. The implication is to leave the hal environment (as shown
in
the prompt) so before issuing the halcmd command I issued an exit command first
and then:

halcmd -f saved.hal

I get:

RTAPI: ERROR: could not open shared memory (errno=2)
HAL: ERROR: rtapi failed
halcmd: hal_init() failed: -9
NOTE: 'rtapi' kernal module must be loaded

This makes sense because in the beginning of the tutorial it addresses the need
for a RTAPI environment. So I thought I understood the error message I got,
therefore I entered:

halrun

Then entered the command:

halcmd -f saved.hal

I then got:

Unknown command 'halcmd'

So there apparently is an error in the tutorial. How can I successfully restore
the Hal configuration?
