Re: [Emc-users] OT: printer toner

2013-03-25 Thread Viesturs Lācis
Thank You, guys, for advice!

2013/3/25 Steve Blackmore st...@pilotltd.net:
On average you will get 2
or three refills before the drum is shot anyway and you need a new
 cartridge.

Is there any place, where I can read more about this?

[Emc-users] OT: printer toner

2013-03-24 Thread Viesturs Lācis
Hello!

Here comes an cnc-unrelated question: is there any difference in all
the different laser printer toners that are available on ebay?
I hacked up our laser printer so that it allows diy refillling and
won't lock up after certain number of pages and I have started to look
around for the toner itself. The thing is that sellers on ebay specify
that some particular package is meant for some particular printer
models. The thing is that I would like to purchase some larger bottles
of the toner, which is not supposed to be used for my printer.
For example, I found this seller:
http://stores.ebay.com/aaatonercalifornia

The question is - are there any differences with the toners (like
fraction size of the powder etc) or is that just a marketing BS and I
can safely use whatever I can find there?

Thanks in advance!

Yes - there are differences.

Universal toner can be purchased and may work well with your printer,
then again it may screw up the fuser or drum. On average you will get 2
or three refills before the drum is shot anyway and you need a new
cartridge.

Higher resolution printers generally require finer toner particle size.

Using too fine a toner for your printer can result in a mess with toner getting
into places it's not supposed to.

Some toners are actually metal coated with plastic. There's a magnetic roller
which picks up toner from the cartridge. Some of those use a low power
transmitting antenna buried in the toner as a level sensor. When the toner
level drops and unshields the antenna, the printer senses the toner is low/out.

Always wear a good dust mask when refilling toner. Inhalation is a risk, can
lead to lung diseases similar what coal miners get.

2013-03-24 Thread Dave
I have been refilling cartridges for years and yes there is a difference.

Find a good toner supplier and stick with them. I can get about 2-3
refills and then the cartridge is shot - at least that is true
for the Sharp cartridges I refill.
