[Emc-users] Simplexmotion servo with integrated controller
New product that has documentation howto set up a step/dir config with LinuxCNC. Interesting. http://simplexmotion.com/ -- Get your SQL database under version control now! Version control is standard for application code, but databases havent caught up. So what steps can you take to put your SQL databases under version control? Why should you start doing it? 2013/8/5 Sven Wesley svenne.d...@gmail.com New product that has documentation howto set up a step/dir config with LinuxCNC. Interesting. http://simplexmotion.com/ This is confusing - they kind of claim that motor and drive is combined in one package, but then it seems like you still need that hub device. And looking at manual that it is communicating either through usb or modbus somehow does not fit together with step/dir signal or anything else I am used to in LinuxCNC. Am I missing something obvious [again]? -- Viesturs If you can't fix it, you don't own it. http://www.ifixit.com/Manifesto -- Get your SQL database under version control now! I think you're correct, good catch. My first reaction is that the proxes are mounted in a very bad way (malfunction will result in a switch acting like a hard stop) but that has nothing to do with the motors, it's just bad mechanical engineering. The setup is pretty closely priced to the parts I used to use (and those controllers are really good), then I know what I get. Hard to beat the experience part of a product. @Viesturs, the motors can be controlled directly with step/dir motion. The hub is not needed. http://www.simplexmotion.com/documentation/SmApplicationNoteCncMachines01a.pdf /S -- Get your SQL database under version control now! Re: [Emc-users] Simplexmotion servo with integrated controller
Interesting packaged motor, but I wonder about some of the design choices. This device uses an outer rotor PMSM with no provision for air flow nor any significant conduction path for heat from the coils to the unit's outer housing. Also the single ended bearing arrangement required by an outer rotor setup are not well suited to side loads. The motor driver electronics are a nice concept and seem to be well executed. Alas the example machine on the web site is running Mach3, not LinuxCNC and the interface is basic step and direction in this application. Re: [Emc-users] Simplexmotion servo with integrated controller
That integrated motor/drive looks very similar to these Animatic smart motors.. http://www.animatics.com/ I worked with some of these a few years ago. They have been around for years. They are pretty slick, but expensive! I didn't know that Moog bought them up.
