The problem with Debian and wireless is that they don't include firmware for the
wireless chipsets by default (non-free etc), so you have to install the firmware
package for your chipset.

Here are a couple of sites with adapters that should work with about any linux
distro, although debian may require firmware install for some of them. I
haven't tried any of these myself! I did get a panda pau05 and it seems to work
well in ubuntu 14.04, but I did not try in Debian.

May I once again mentioned the ThinkPenguin WiFi dongles as possible
candidates?
https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-wireless-g-usb-adapter

Based on the debian wiki the drivers for the Realtek RTL8187B chipset used
in the above
linked dongle are included in the Linux kernel, and should be automatically
loaded for supported devices.

How is it going? I just bought a TP-Link TL-WN722N on the basis if
this thread and it doesn't work.
To the extent that it doesn't even say what it is in lsusb.

Apparently the TP-Link TL-WN722N used to use an Atheros chipset, and
that works fine with Linux.
But they now use a Realtek one, and it doesn't.

Furthermore I don't see any forum postings reporting success compiling
the drivers supplied in the CD.

At leat my other dongles are detected and get as far as seeing my
network and trying to connect. They just can't authorise.

I've had excellent luck with the TP-Link TL-WN722N with Linux.
No drivers or Linux hacking required.

I bought three of these when they were about $12.00 each for a while.
Its a plug and go on every Linux box I have.

Jeremy,

ThinkPenguin sells WiFi dongles and cards that are designed to work out of
the box with libre Linux.
Every time I waste hours of my life finding and installing proprietary
drivers for WiFi cards
I promise I will get one so I don't have to mess with it again, but somehow
once I get it
working I always forget :)

Their prices are not all that bad either, less than twice a typical evil
dongle, so if they actually work its a bargain:

I have been struggling to find one that works. I have a bunch of them
that work with Raspbian but they don't seem to like the PREEMPT-RT
LiveDVD.
I don't know if the problem is Debian or the realtime kernel.

In the end I bought a USB to Ethernet adaptor.
