I think that is wrong, uspace is real time not a simulator.

I think I've found the answer:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/hal/comp.html says:
"If a .comp file is a driver for hardware, it may be placed in
linuxcnc/src/hal/drivers and will be built unless LinuxCNC is configured as a
userspace simulator."

As I'm using uspace I don't get the component.

Interesting, I thought it did.

You should be able to compile and install it with
sudo halcompile --install mesa_uart.comp

I looked inside your 'mesa_uart' component, which is included in the source
tree. But the component doesn't get compiled.

I build 2.7 and 2.8 and mesa_uart isn't in the list loadeable by loadrt.

Is there a switch somewhere to enable compilation?

Re: [Emc-users] Using 7i76 I/O as serial Rx/Tx?

2016-07-08 Thread dannym
On my X200 VFD I ran into problems with common-mode noise. RS485's
differential mode is highly effective at rejecting differential noise UNLESS
you exceed the differential range of either transceiver's RX side, then it
stops working, and there was a lot. So I got an optoisolating RS232-RS485
converter.

I'm not too happy with having a second cable for the VFD, my computer is
located away from the control box with all that and I'd rather have one cable.
That's a minor issue of coarse. I was fortunate in that I have a PC with a
true RS232 DB9 on it that can be screwed in. The USB-serial link would be more
of a deal-breaker because it doesn't physically lock.

It is possible to use the hm2 UART module, and I have done. But it
isn't easy. You currently need to write your own custom HAL component
to encode and decode the byte meanings.

To use hy_vfd it is _far_ easier to just buy a $2 USB-RS485 dongle and use that.

Though you may find one closer and faster with searching.

It is possible to desolder the USB plug and fit a motherboard header
so that you can mount it internally, if you want.

2016-07-07 Thread Danny Miller
I'd asked them about using a 7i92 to drive an RS485 transceiver, which
would require 4 signals. They said the functionality was planned but
no specific date.

I asked if it would just appear as a Com port, he said no it'd be a
specific LinuxCNC driver.

There's a "UART" listed on the 7i92's features. Actually since I have a
hardware RS232/RS485 bridge I could still use that, if the config for it
has been made. But I don't know if it has.

[Emc-users] Using 7i76 I/O as serial Rx/Tx?

2016-07-07 Thread Axel Zöllich
I'ld like to control a Hungyang VFD via RS485 and the linuxcnc hy_vfd module.
As I#ve got the machine running with the well known 5i25/7i76 combo, i'ld like
to use one 7i76 input and one 7i76 output line as TTL serial and only would
need an RS485 driver to get a working composition.

Is it possible to compile/configure the 5i25/7i76s firmware to provide an
/dev/ttySx to the linux kernel?
