I've got some 50 tpi in my lathe, tapered to boot as it was used as a compression nut, worked well but it was picky to do on TLM. What amazed me at the time was that the first pass at making the screw and 3 nuts worked the first time. That bearing would be the thrust bearing and is likely a dual angular contact, one faceing each way so a bit of preload can be applied to get rid of all backlash from that bearing. That is the diameter and pitch for a N-02 nut which is for a shaft for a M15 shaft. People lucky enough to live in metric land would use an M14 or 15 bearing lock nut but they have pitch of 1mm or 1.5 mm. Re: [Emc-users] custom | stock bearing nut
McMaster and Misumi have M15x1 bearing retaining nuts, but nothing finer pitch. Hard to say if your ball screw was supplied with the thread from THK or if it was supplied unfinished and machined later. I don't even see M15x0.8 in Machinery's Handbook. -- Ralph From: dave engvall [dengv...@charter.net] Sent: Tuesday, April 5, 2022 9:43 AM To: Enhanced Machine Controller (EMC) Subject: [Emc-users] custom | stock bearing nut CAUTION: This email originated from outside the Walla Walla University email system. Re: [Emc-users] custom | stock bearing nut
Measure the thread accurately and even without a lathe it should be easy enough to thread mill a nut. Are your certain about the 0.8mm pitch? A pitch of 0.75 or 1.0mm seems more likely? A M15x0.75 tap is available from https://www.threadtools.com/hss-taps/hss-taps-2-p-metric-9/p9 and I'm certain other vendors. -Original Message- From: Sam Sokolik Sent: April 5, 2022 12:57 PM To: Enhanced Machine Controller (EMC) Subject: Re: [Emc-users] custom | stock bearing nut wow - I had a hard enough time finding 12mm x 1..
