GNOME 3.22 Release Video: Manuscript Draft 1

2016-09-06 Thread Bastian Ilso

Hi everyone,

I need your input on the 3.22 Release Video manuscript. You can read it
here:

https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointTwentyone/ReleaseVideo

We reach out to ~100,000 viewers, let's strongly consider what we show:
- Is there something about the release you think we should cover better?
- Is there something taking too much narrator time?
- Do you have suggestions for music (for CC-BY-SA 4.0)?

My thoughts on what the video should cover:
- Emphasize our values: being the modern, bleeding-edge,
community-powered, free and open desktop.
- Talk about the technological advancements we are making (fx
sandboxing/distribution), but keep it on a high level.
- Show highlights of the new application features, thank our
contributors.
- Make a call for new contributors towards the end, they can help us
make a difference.

Feel free to:
1) Edit the manuscript as you wish.
2) Reply with feedback in this thread.
3) Reply with feedback on the wiki page.

Your input is very valuable, I expect to finish the manuscript by
Sunday the 11th. Thank you so much!

Sure, I was just throwing something I'd like to see that will
hopefully be taken into account when someone does the new design.

That's something I didn't take into account and you're probably right about it.

You mentionned the flatpak website earlier: is it translatable?

Translations are probably easier to setup with any static generator
than with Wordpress, as we have many tools that deal with the common
formats used in such cases (Markdown and HTML mostly).

Having experienced this type of website setup for flatpak.org, I
have to say that it's a really nice way to work, and it could make
it easier to do a redesign of the website.

I would like if we could figure out how a redesign would look before
switching backend engines.
I like the wordpress more than the static site generator we had
before (not only for the handy edit button, but also because the old
system broke down a lot), but if we want to build something that
would benefit from a static site generator, I think we should choose
the right tool for the job.

That would be the correct way to do it, indeed!

There's a "Banner" option in the menu that used to update the image in
gnome.org, but the code removed in previous updates. We can definitely make
it work for the screenshot on the homepage (i've already tested it locally).
