When the size of image object in the emotion object is smaller than 80% of video size, I added a fimcconvert element to the pipeline. The fimcconvert element is distributed in Samsung to use internally, so if the element exists, it is added to the pipeline. is this opensource or generic? The gstreamer plugin code is proprietary I think (need ot check that), but the driver is open source and already mainline in linux kernel since a few year. So it's just the user space glue (the gstreamer plugins) that is not public. If it's restricted to samsung hw, then please keep this a patchset for your platforms. If it's public, then could you share a timeline to get his accepted in Gstreamer's plugin base or at least good set? It would be nice if the decodebin would use it automatically, improving all the users of such helper, including emotion. Problem is gstreamer playbin doesn't handle this kind of plugins at the moment. There is some work to do on gstreamer side before it can get this kind of plugins in correctly (not in a hackish way). In some way this patch is a work around gstreamer limitation and the fact that it lack some feature. The thing is we need this feature and maybe more than for just Samsung hardware (colorspace convertion and scaledown in an optimized way). This patch gave the infra to work around a limitation in a hackish way, I agree, but the time needed to fix gstreamer is much higher than if we do it on our side. I see that as a temporary mesure until gstreamer 1.0 is out, device maker start to adopt it and we can start to fix it correctly. so either make the plugins to be used a compile/runtime configured list (much like the playbin/decodebin uses) or keep it as a separate patch. as is this really does not belong to emotion. I agree with you on the theory, but the fact is that all embedded hardware that I have access to have really a bad implementation of gstreamer on it (The cubox seems to be the worth one and will require a big custom pipeline). So this left us with only a limited choice. We are not going to fix proprietary code on this platform. If we do not provide an infra to work around all this crappy implementation then emotion is basically useless. The situation of Video library on Linux is actually really poor. As long as their is no serious solution to this issue we are stuck with hack. On this, the next step is clearly to move gstreamer to use the generic pipeline also, as it is a big source of crash... So I am going to commit this patch as the first step toward an infra for working around embedded device limitation. Isn't this a Samsung hw with Samsung sw? Also, if this is specific to some HW, why have it in svn? It should be in the SDK patchset. I really don't get it in svn :-/ I am refering to this device : http://www.solid-run.com/products/cubox/ . And in my past experience, gstreamer wasn't that good and needed some workaround (Look how many times XBMC need to be ported). I want to be able to use Emotion on this hardware. Currently it's not going to happen with a patch that I need to put somewhere in my own distribution. And that need to be repeated for almost all embedded device (We don't have yet the equivalent of OpenGL ES for video). By moving this stuff in Emotion, I hope to come up with a generic approach and share code among this hardware. Did u think about a gst plugin that use the others and have higher priority? Then for emotion it would be transparent. As bonus

One should have a global setter and maybe a getter to enable or disable features, or even better just load multisense if it's required. [Prince] Multisense load is not needed during compilation/decompilation, because it inculdes remix and its plug-in(i.e. eetsndreader, ALSA) load, which are specificaly required during runtime only. As per your suggestion above, should we add interfaces for setter/getter to enable this feature in edje ? Please share your opinion. I dislike having to manually enable or disable them. Just use it as last resource. Ideally the multisense would be disabled and whenever a group uses multisense, it would be enabled. You do not need to further disable the setup later, it's fine to keep it on. It's like a lazy-loaded singleton. As edje_cc will never edje_object_file_set() it will never hit the path to load multisense. Then we're fine for it and every other software that does not use it. [E-devel] [Patch] [Elementary] added magnifier feature to elm_entry

I think this kind of feature could be useful for people with limited sightedness on desktop to. The attached patch is related to the entry magnifier feature that helps user move cursor easily in a mobile entry. This can be more useful with another selection mode in a edje_entry that supports moving cursor in mouse_move. However as I described above, I'll send the edje_entry selection patch (that will also include one more change in long press detection in an elm_entry) right after this magnifier patch is accepted. So, please review this patch just focused on magnifier feature itself. I added next 2 APIs to enable or disable magnifier feature in an entry. - EAPI void elm_entry_magnifier_disabled_set(Evas_Object *obj, Eina_Bool disabled); - EAPI Eina_Bool elm_entry_magnifier_disabled_get(const Evas_Object *obj); Shouldn't that be part of Elementary window config ? As application should really not care about that. Yes, and I'd say it should emit some signal or callbacks and be replaceable from outside of elm. If its possible to have the magnifier usable from other places (magnify at x,y the object o) it would be helpful as well. Now is better. It is annoying the current version inside a frame and you get it clipped. At least in some themes. then i will have to violate freeze and do it this weekend. :( Hi, I made a patch with an edje object displaying text during the Slider drag state. (The module design is been dropped, instead, we integrated it with the default widget code. Refer to: http://www.mail-archive.com/enlightenment-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg41850.html ) The position and geometry can be controlled by a swallowed rectangle as the indicator popup is placed exactly over its location. The popup (edje) object can be moved as per the invisible swallowed part so the popup display is totally controlled by theme/style (can adjust the offset or the size of indicator popup). The indicator stacking issue can be resolved in slider widget and the default theme look feel remains unchanged with this patch. The attached patch is related to the entry magnifier feature that helps user move cursor easily in a mobile entry. This can be more useful with another selection mode in a edje_entry that supports moving cursor in mouse_move. One is that we disabled evas async preload accidentally when we submitted cserve2, even if the server wasn't running but evas was still compiled with support for it. Since it is enabled by default, we also prevent this bug from happening, even though there's no reason to keep the async render disabled. I just committed a fix to re-enable it. The other problem is: this bug happens even with an Evas from before adding cserve2. It happens during the async preload of images (that uses threads for the job), and seems to disappear if you disable threads on edje_cc, which points me to think that some race condition happens when enabling both of them. So, does anyone have an idea of how to fix it? I don't know much of edje_cc code, and didn't try to look at it now. Re: [E-devel] E17 BUG - Screen setup
2012/7/4 Lucas De Marchi lucas.demar...@profusion.mobi: Screen setup window is broken for me. It doesn't show the external display, but rather contains a huge scrollbar. The external monitor *is* connected. Apparently it's the position of the widget that is wrong since it appears to be in the very up corner on the right. See shot01.png and shot01a.png Hm.. the last time I used the dialog (last week or so) I didn't have that problem (using open ati driver here). If I change the Show disconnected monitors and click close, E17 completely locks up. This is a known issue and I already requested help on it twice (e keeps looping the deletion of e_layout iirc). Also, the first time it starts, there's nothing selected (shot02.png). When I select my main screen the elements don't fit in the window (shot02.png), forcing me to resize it. To me release is about stamping the quality of some set of code. I never like, agree or understand your point of future promises about it. you may not like it, but it is REALITY. it is a reality i learned from imlib and imlib2. people bitching and then leaving to use some other library because their code kept breaking. If you were a company selling software to customers, I'd even try to understand. But even these companies give a shit as you can see at major vendors. if you see your competition as gtk - they maintained aq stable unbroken api for about 5 years until gtk2, 8 years until gtk3. (1998ish to 2003ish, then 2.x for 2003ish to 2011ish). gtk isn't a company selling support. qt was poorer at this as they are up to 4 and about to hit 5 now. admittedly for a longer timeframe. let me just put gtk now as the benchmark for stability. but even then, libc's have maintained compatibility for much longer. many other libraries have done so too. windows has maintained compatibility going forward for decades. if you don't believe this is important, then you have yet to learn that lesson. i've learned it. i vowed to ensure that efl is stable and supported once we release, and it shall be so, because doing otherwise hurts us most amongst those that matter most - existing people already invested in efl. people who have decided to give it a go and take a risk. worth noting that Maemo struggled with Gtk for exactly the reason you praise as benefit. They needed mobile features that were not getting in because Gtk tried to provide stability to enterprise applications... which I doubt they had at a relevant amount given Gtk's license and API x Qt (which was preferred by closed source enterprise grade software house) or Java/AWS. gtk didn't ADD features. nothing to do with breaking compatibility. actually what got in the way was the Gtk windowed widgets. They struggled a lot to get to windowless widgets as EFL did forever... they call they got it, but I've heard there are some stuff left here and there. they did not change to avoid breaking compat. At the end, they were not flexible enough... and once competition (iPhone) got ahead, they had no chance other than completely move... I tried to put EFL in there, but we had NO RELEASES... :-) and we'd have been ditched for qt anyway. :) probably a good thing.
