2013-01-15 Thread SHILPA ONKAR SINGH

Hi All,

Please find attached bug fix for elm_check - toggle style.
This patch prevents changed signal being sent twice in case of
toggle style when check is clicked.
This also fixes few indentation issues in the style.

AFAIK, used for emotion engine. You can pass --disable-gstreamer but not
recommended. There are other engines available for emotion
(--eanble-xine, etc) but those are less tested.

It is required by emotion. Other backends may have licensing issues,
so are disabled by default.

  Attached (hopefully) is a screenie. The top half is Elementary
  widgets. The bottom half is an Evas_GL rectangle, that Irrlict is
  rendering the bottom half of their mascot model into, packed into
  the same ELM box that the top widgets are packed into. You can see
  two typical ePhysics objects bouncing around in both halves. The
  Irrlicht model is animated.

  It's not perfect, but it's a start. The ePhysics objects flicker
  when they move around the top half over the ELM widgets, but not
  when going over the Evas_GL bottom widget. Irrlicht is not
  constraining itself to the size of the Evas_GL rectangle, it SHOULD
  be showing the entire woman, not just her lower half. I have not
  yet gotten Evas_GL to be able to draw it's own stuff at the same
  time as Irrlicht, it's either one, the other, or crap.

After I moved the ELM widgets into an ELM inlined window, all the
flickering stopped. Very odd, but I want them all in inlined windows
anyway.  shrugs

I bit the bullet and just moved the camera to get the proper view of
the model.

If you just want VLC, configure EFL with --disable-gstreamer. Xine is
disabled by default.

Then you need to checkout the other package from
trunk/emotion_generic_players and build that to get VLC.

nooo... why did you do this? It is wrong as what you did will call
PKG_CONFIG on ecore-x and ecore-evas, using the INSTALLED version. In
other words, you break systems that are building EFL for the first
time :-(

The correct approach is to add the dependencies in
src/Makefile_Ecore_Imf.am like this:

modules_ecore_imf_xim_module_la_LIBADD = \
@USE_ECORE_IMF_LIBS@ \
@USE_ECORE_X_LIBS@ \
@ecore_imf_xim_libs@
modules_ecore_imf_xim_module_la_DEPENDENCIES = \
@USE_ECORE_IMF_INTERNAL_LIBS@ \
@USE_ECORE_X_INTERNAL_LIBS@

This is the XIM and it will use ECORE_X, thus _LIBADD and
_DEPENDENCIES use @USE_ECORE_X_LIBS@ and @USE_ECORE_X_INTERNAL_LIBS@.

I'll fix that in SVN for you.

  Hi all,

  Finally all the libs are in trunk/efl, making compilation hopefully
  faster and simpler. But as every major change, we need testers and
  cleanup.

  It would be nice to test it on different platforms to see what kind of
  problems comes up. Linux should be pretty solid, but would be nice to
  have feedback from BSD and Solaris people as well.

  I successfully built it on NetBSD (6.99.16) but:

  - I had to put _eina_file_copy_{read,write}_splice_internal() between
#ifdef SPLICE in src/lib/eina/eina_file.c

 Fixed, thanks!

  - libedje.so is linked with libfontconfig but the rpath as specified by
the latter's pkg-config file is not used when linking it. Because
fontconfig is installed under the Xorg prefix (/usr/X11R7/) this
breaks e.g. edje_cc during build. (I worked around it by setting
LD_LIBRARY_PATH.)

 This is very weird. libedje.so doesn't use fontconfig directly, it's
 just used by libevas.so and this uses whatever `pkg-config --libs
 fontconfig`reports. Is it a broken fontconfig.pc?

  - configure thinks dirfd() doesn't exist because on NetBSD it's a
macro, and the test program tries to compile without including
dirent.h. It looks like m4/efl_check_funcs.m4 has dirfd detection
that would work for this case.

 fixed as well... but it is bad news to me! I was about to replace that
 ac_check_funcs.m4 to use AC_SEARCH_LIBS(), but it would have problems
 with macros as well :-(

 Hey,

 Now that we have a single EFL tree, we can and probably should merge the
 python/whatever bindings as well.

 To be honest, it's not something I have the time or interest to do, just
 sending this reminder in case anyone is.

Hi all!
I'm instead really intrested in this work, in real I started yet on this, I
have
a python-efl tree locally.
I have done some test/tryout in the last 2/3 weeks to see how we can
improve/simplify the bindings...but, to be honest, there are a lot of stuff
to be done and I can't afford this alone.

To start we need to discuss well what we want/need, so I'm going to list
here all the idea I have in my mind:

1. python3 compatibility - for this goal we need to remove the metaclass
stuff from all the code, I have done this point without problems in my tests

2. merging the tree will make it natural to use a container package, thus
once
merged you will need to import as:
from efl import evas
instead of:
import evas

3. windoz compatibility - I really do not mind this point but has been
requested
some times. I think the fault here is compiling the bindings without
ecore_x, probably the problem are some call to ecore_x_* also in ecore.Evas.
This also let me think that all the non-x engines are broken :/

4. Eo: coding an Eo base class in python seems to be a good choice, we can
move there lots of code that now are duplicated around the libs: objects
ref/unref,
Object_from_instance, callbacks, touni/fruni/cfruni and stuff can be shared
in the base Eo class) Also Eo weak reference need to be investigated, can be
usefull here.

5. (this is my dream) Do we really need to bind all the ecore_evas, ecore_x
and in
general ecore_* stuff ? why not just remove them? we have elm now, we dont
need
anymore to use EcoreEvas just to create a win. Python is high level we
should stay there

6. should elm be included in the python-efl tree? or alone as in c?

ok, seems enough, too much work for me :(
but imo having a single tree is necessary to simplify the release
processes, that
have zero man resource atm

2013-01-15 Thread Tom Hacohen
They are actually more of a hack that I use when I work on textblock. It
started making issues without EAPI with my current setup so I added the
EAPI. I haven't namespaced them as I want to type as little as possible
when debugging. :)

If they ever clash for someone, that someone should change it locally.
Since you need to change the #if 0 anyway, it's not something that's not
accessible or anythingi.

 both are valid, not together... what are you trying to do here?

 I am not saying -Wshadow is useless. In the snippet below the warning
 is valid (and GCC 4.7 correctly warns about it):

 int f(void)
 {
 return 0;
 }

 int main(void)
 {
 int f = 0;
 return f++;
 }

 However in the following snippet there's no way the programmer would
 be confused about signal:

 #include signal.h

 int main(void)
 {
 int signal = 0;

 return signal;
 }

 signal is a pointer to a function that lives in another TU. What I am
 saying is essentially the same Linus said on his email I pointed out.

I know this thread, I've read it before. I disagree with that statement
though.
int main(void)
{
void *signal = NULL;
void *signal2 = signal;
...
return signal2 == NULL;
}

Once you remove the shadowing variable declaration you'll be left with
broken code. That's why shadow exists and it makes no difference if it's a
local int or a global function. We use void * in our code, it's not that
uncommon that we'll get this.

Furthermore, our code compiles just fine with -Wall -Wextra -Wshadow, so
why not maintain it if it's so easy? This may be annoying for the kernel or
systemd that have a lot of shadowing, but we can get the benefits of
-Wshadow with the annoyances that Linus describes.

  Furthermore, as mike said, it does no harm, and having a warning free
  compilation is very important.

 sure. and I agreed with the exception of useless warnings. For
 example, here with gcc 4.7 I didn't have the problem he fixed.

Yeah, but we want all the compilations to compile without warnings so
buildbot reports will be meaningful, and that people will be able to
compile and check for themselves that there were no added warnings in their
changes, even if they use old compiler versions.

  unused-parameter is a very useful warning, I wouldn't ignore it if I were
  you.

 What am I missing? Do you have an example in real world that turning
 this warning on discovered a bug? I never saw one. And this was
 after turning it on on projects that previously didn't have it.

 It shows you when your function actually accepts parameters it doesn't
need (i.e they should be removed), or if you forgot to take them into
account in the function code and should use them. This is very useful when
you split your code into smaller functions that you change and you would
like to easily know if your new algorithm doesn't take a parameter into
account or not. This can be achieved in other ways as well, but the good
thing about warnings is that they force themselves on you, whether you ask
for them or not. :)

  The only place unused parameter is uselessly annoying is callbacks.

 oh... there you got it... our libs are all about callbacks and that's
 why I hate -Wunused-parameter. I hate fixing warnings by simply
 shutting up the compiler with var attributes. A warning is relevant
 only when it points to real problems.

Can't argue with that. :)

 Btw, if you want a large code base to test the hypothesis that this
 indeed reveals real bugs, I suggest you to remove the
 -Wno-unused-parameter from systemd's  configure.ac  or from kernel's
 Makefile.

As Mike and I have said, warnings are useless if there's a warning clutter.
That's why we silence warnings that are obviously not bugs, we want
warnings to be important and visible. If the code is cluttered with
warnings they are not useful anymore. So if anything, this argument
supports what we've said.

Hello,
this patch looks cool and in SVN but I have some comments.
http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/changeset/82845

1. indentation.
The indentation between EFL c sources and EDC are different.
EDC uses 3 spcaes for indentation.
You don't need to change it. It's already ok.
I fixed indentations in your patch.

2.  NEWS and ChangeLog
This is a bug fix. Please provide NEWS and ChangeLog patches next time.
I did it for you this time.

3. Branches backport.
Please provide a backport for e/branches/elementary-1.7 next time.
I did it for you this time.

Thanks.

  of the claws mail popups flashing up briefly and vanishing again
  sometimes, but working fine the second time I try. Typically the
  password popup for my PGP signature. Dunno if that's related.
  I've mentioned this before. I'm not sure if it's related to my
  recent upgrade to 12.04, or recent changes to work around bugs in
  claws mail and similar programs that I DID NOT GET before the work
  around. Both happened at about the same time I think.

 I can't easily find where these work arounds for claws mail and
 similar programs happened. Is there a way to turn OFF those work
 arounds? Things worked fine without them for me, now it's getting
 bad. The popups sometimes breifly popup and vanish several times in
 a row. It's worse, sending an email needs two popups, one to sign
 them, one to send them, and I sometimes get the bug happening to both.

 I just spent a few minutes endlessly clicking the claws-mail Send
 button coz of this problem. Can someone that knows please answer?

I use claw-mails to and never see this issue. Now time to find why it
work for me and for you. I am also on an Ubuntu 12.04 updated from a
month ago. I could update it again. I use NVidia driver 310.19. Use
E17 compositor with OpenGL backend.

 They are actually more of a hack that I use when I work on textblock. It

 If they ever clash for someone, that someone should change it locally.
 Since you need to change the #if 0 anyway, it's not something that's not
 accessible or anythingi.

Ah, missed the #if

nooo... why did you do this? It is wrong as what you did will call
PKG_CONFIG on ecore-x and ecore-evas, using the INSTALLED version. In
other words, you break systems that are building EFL for the first
time :-(

The correct approach is to add the dependencies in
src/Makefile_Ecore_Imf.am like this:

modules_ecore_imf_xim_module_la_LIBADD = \
@USE_ECORE_IMF_LIBS@ \
@USE_ECORE_X_LIBS@ \
@ecore_imf_xim_libs@
modules_ecore_imf_xim_module_la_DEPENDENCIES = \
@USE_ECORE_IMF_INTERNAL_LIBS@ \
@USE_ECORE_X_INTERNAL_LIBS@

This is the XIM and it will use ECORE_X, thus _LIBADD and
_DEPENDENCIES use @USE_ECORE_X_LIBS@ and @USE_ECORE_X_INTERNAL_LIBS@.

I'll fix that in SVN for you.
