Re: [E-devel] Fw: Enlightenment presentation? (ping #2)

2013-09-09 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen
Hi Rasterman,

Unfortunately I have to decline. I haven't found a good subject to talk about.
And I am afraid that the presentation will give a wrong impression of
enlightenment/EFL. There is also a big change that I will not attend the
Software Freedom Day.

I am sorry if I gave fales hope.

Greetings,

Mark-Willem 'rawnar' Jansen
P.S.: I am still interested in EFL/enlightenment. Maybe I dan bring some orange
to the dev pool.

 Hi Rasterman,

I live in the East of the Netherlands and I am thinking about attending
the Software Freedom Day. Unfortunately I know to little about the present
enlightenment development that I will not be able to give a presentation
and let alone answer difficult questions.

In the past I did some small hacks on modules, but that is how far my
experience goes with development. I do use e17 on a daily basis.

BTW, are there any Dutchmen working actively on the enlightenment project?

you could do something from a user point of view? like what makes e good for
you? is it good for you? where? why? :)

I doubt it if I can fill a whole presentation about my experience with e.

What kind of people will be attending this SFD2013?

i don't actually know. i've never been and i know nothing about it beyond the
 email :)

In the next few days I will try to catch-up on the latest developments of
EFL/e17/e18/e19. Maybe I can come up with a topic to talk about.

sure! i think we need a yes or no response really soon though - people are
 probably making plans. :)

as for dutch guys hmm no - not at the moment anyway in tersm of active
 devs... we're dutch-free :)

I do not know if this is a good think or a bad think. ;-)

it's a bad thing. we need more orange! :)

Re: [E-devel] Big memory leak in e17.

2012-02-08 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Back to the problem. The fact that valgrind finds no memory leak can mean.

1) Valgrind is not perfect and can sometimes fail to find a memory leak.
2) There are some pre-compiler lines in the code, different users can have
different flags set.
3) There is no memory leak, but the code itself is allocating more and more
memory while loading the same image over and over.

Maybe the original poster can point us in the correct direction by providing
EFL based programs he/she is using.

(I fail to remember the name of the original poster.)

Hi,

Just went through the commit of r67604 and found this line added twice.

_evas_cache_image_entry_delete(cache, im);

You can find them at lines 784 and 822. The rest of the commit is format
editing.

Hopes it helps.

And valgrind tend to point to a leak in evas cache image infra. My
personnal bet would be that it is related to r67604 (I just checked
that indeed jumping to r67603 solve the issue).

Take your time, we will probably be still here when you are finished with the

At least could you give us the svn revision you based the new mixer
implementation on,
so we can compile a compatible version of the EFL's and e17.

Re: [E-devel] about packaging/debian directories

So my idea was not a very good one. But I would like to pose another idea.

What about setting up a Vcs-Git for all the packages, so it will be easier to
collaborate on setting up the packages. We could use something like github
to store the gits and set-up the collaboration. A free account on github has
a 0.30GB limit which should be enough for most of the packages.

Okay lets use the svn server then. Would it be an idea then to remove all the
Cvs-Git lines
from the control files. As the bleeding packages generated by us will not be
maintained
through git. So pointing to the git repos in the control files could confuse
the users and
maintainers.

Re: [E-devel] about packaging/debian directories

2011-05-31 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

It would also be nice to debianize the packages which are in
the snapshot directory. These are probably stable enough to go into
the main debian repo. Lutin can upload them into the debian unstable repo.
That way more achitects will be supported and more e17 related packages will
get into debian based distributions.

Re: [E-devel] Path key in Desktop entry file not used‏

2011-05-16 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Me again,

Just noticed that efreet has it own implementation of executing a program based
on it desktop entry. One could use this efreet_desktop_exec() to execute
desktop
entries from e_exec(). It uses efreet_desktop_command_get() as e_exec() does,
but
has a different callback function to execute the program namely
efreet_desktop_exec_cb().

Unfortunately the callback in efreet seems a bit simple, when you compare it to
the one used in e_exec.c. So I am not sure if the implementation is complete,
yet.
Also the doxygen info states that efreet_desktop_exec will return a Ecore_Exe
but
I fail to see that. As efreet_desktop_exec() does not return anything and also
efreet_desktop_exec_cb() will always return NULL and not the result of
ecore_exe_run().

Off course this can all be fixed. So one could use efreet_desktop_exec() inside
e_exec().
Just let me know if this is reasonable and I will give it a shot.

[E-devel] Path key in Desktop entry file not used‏

2011-05-09 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Dear all,

A few days ago I installed a game that also placed a .desktop file on my Desktop
and in the games menu. But both entries give an error 126 when it tries to start
the launcher. This launcher script picks the executable to run depending on the
architect. The launcher script uses relative paths to execute the game. I went
into the .desktop file and found Path key that was set to the launcher's path.

I did some tests and found that enlightenment was not setting the working
directory to this Path key before executing the command. For the .desktop file
on
my Desktop it was using the working directory ~/Desktop. When using the entry
in the menu it uses my home as the working directory. Both are wrong when the
path key is set and the type key is equal to Application.

I also test the same .desktop files under gnome. From which the game was
launched without problems.

I do not know if this bug is know or that it has been fixed. I tried to sweep
the bug
report and the mailting lists. But the search keys are very general and gave me
abundant hits.

At this moment I am running e17 from svn revision 56278.

Kind regards,

Mark-Willem Jansen
P.S.: This is the second time I send this e-mail. The first time it did not
show up in
the archives.

Re: [E-devel] Path key in Desktop entry file not used‏

2011-05-09 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Hi,

Do I still need to file a bug on the tracker system, or is this entry in the
mailing
list enough.

[E-devel] [news module] adding or configurating a news feed crashes Enlightenment

2009-05-22 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Dear enlightenment developers,

When I click the button add in the News feed configuration dialog, I
get the segmentation
fault warning from e17. It is the right add button
that relates to adding a new feed to the
news module. Also configuring
an existing feed gives me a segmentation fault.

I found a solution. The problem occurs when the calls to
_cb_category_list and
_cb_lang_change are made from the functions

news_config_dialog_feed_refresh_categories and

news_config_dialog_feed_refresh_langs respectively. Within the callback
functions the
position return by e_widget_ilist_selected_get is then
-1. This is weird as for the same ilist
the position has been set to
pos_to_select or 0 when pos_to_select == -1 with

e_widget_ilist_selected_set, before the callback function is called.
Nevertheless the call to
the two function is not needed when the code
doesn't preselect a category or language
for a new feed. The attached
patch fixes the segmentation problem and the warning that
you have to
select a category every time you change something in a feed.

The ticket ( http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/ticket/317 ) in the tracker has a
patch that
contains the solution.

Kind regards,

Mark-Willem Rawnar Jansen

[E-devel] [epdf] esmart_pdf and ewl_pdf are causing segmentation faults

2009-05-13 Thread Mark-Willem Jansen

Hi Vincent 'caro' Torri,

A couple of weeks ago I had added a ticket to the tracker of enlightenment.
Could you have a look at it, as it solved the segmentation faults that I was
having with test_ewl_pdf and test_esmart_pdf.
It also solves the segmentation fault of eyesight when it load a pdf file. This
is mainly because eyesight uses the
esmart functionality in its plug-in. The segmentation fault is because new
GlobalParams() moved to epdf_init, which is not
called from any function within esmart_pdf, ewl_pdf.

Kind regards,

Mark-Willem Rawnar Jansen
