[E-devel] [support.osuosl.org #29680] enlightenment5.osuosl.oob fan failure

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this.

I looked around the NOC today and located the spare fan.
However, I'm a bit confused about the situation.

I opened up enlightenment5, and there are currently 5 fans present.
All five fans were spinning as expected. I've attached a photo of them
spinning [1]. There is also a slot for a 6th fan which is unoccupied.

Looking through the ticket history, it appears at one point there was an
indication that FAN4 had failed?

JJ, did you ever open the box and witness a fan not spinning?
Did you already replace a fan?

I tested the spare fan and it also works. I wanted to insert this into the
6th slot in hopes that it would help with the temperature issues, but the
problem is that the sixth connector on the motherboard requires a long
extension cable to reach it. I didn't find one in the spare parts box.
I've attached a second photo [2] of this cable and the connector
(see where my finger is pointing). It's possible we have one of those
cables around somewhere, but I'm not sure yet.

Yeah, the temperature light is on and there is a persistent beeping, but
the fans are all spinning so I'm not sure there's much more to do in that
regard.

Have we informed you in the past that one of the machine's two redundant
power supply units are not working? I think that's probably the beep/alarm
that we're hearing.

Is that something you would like to have replaced?

2018-10-19 Thread Travis Whitehead via RT
On a different note, it seems like we can't access OOB/IPMI for enlightenment5
because the credentials we have saved don't work anymore. Would you be
willing to reset the password to something that we both know? It would be
helpful to have access to info from IPMI when troubleshooting issues like
these.

If you're comfortable with PGP, would you mind updating the password for IPMI
and sending it to me encrypted with my GPG key? I've attached my public key
to this email. (We try to avoid sending passwords over email unprotected.)

Sorry, forgot to attach it. Now it is attached. :)

Thank you for sending me the credentials, but they don't seem to be working
for me. Could you try logging in with them and let me know if it works at:
http://enlightenment5.osuosl.oob

Yes, I reseated the SATA cables in October. I mentioned that over in
the disk-related ticket (#30287 e5 disk failure). I will quote my message
below:

I was waiting to hear back if reseating the SATA cables changed anything,
so please let me know when you get the chance to look into it.

(Ideally please respond in the thread for #30287 so the discussion
isn't split between two threads. I can bump it again if it got lost in the
inbox.)

Thank you, that's good to know. I think that unless someone can chime in
with a (preferably encrypted) set of working credentials, we should just
reset the IPMI password so both the project and the OSL can access it
properly.

Bertrand, do you have working credentials for accessing IPMI? Or would it
be better if we reset the password?

If you'd like, I can manually power on the machine in the meantime?

Oops, I meant to send that to the other ticket. I'm going to mark this as
resolved
(considering we've addressed the fan question), and discussion about
IPMI & disks can continue in #30287: e5 disk failure
