Re: [e-users] possible issues with efl and e18.8

2015-01-21 Thread Todd Hought
Yeah, us gentoo folk do tend to fiddle with things quite a bit. :-)

everything is back to happy now, with efll at 1.11.2, elemtentary at 1.11.2
and e at 0.18.8.

Terminology did seem to have a bizarre permission issue (only root logins)
so I'll have to spin up a vm and maybe play with that. thankfully, the
memory getting chewed up like crazy, at least it's on a SSD so it only
pegged for about 15 seconds. it happened on another machine of mine with
spinning disks and locked the poor thing up for a solid 15 minutes.

And if efl 1.12 is that broken, why is it even available?!

Because we don't see any of your issue here :-) I can't even reproduce
any of them. I do compile efl for all branch 1.8 to 1.12 before any
release of efl in snapshot chroot (to be sure that they do have the
same configuration) and then run a memory and cpu benchmark to check
we don't have any regression. So I am pretty confident that on a
standard setup with no option everything work.

The question is where does your leak come from and why doesn't
terminology start for you. We will need your help to debug this issue.
You need to have efl, elementary, enlightenment and terminology build
with debug symbol (ideally with CFLAGS=-O0 -ggdb3 -g. Then you run,
for debugging the memory leak, a few minute with the following command
 : valgrind --tool=massif enlightenment_start and attach the
resulting massif.out to a proper ticket on phab.enlightenment.org.
For terminology, I have no idea if it is a crash, an access right
issue or something else. So you may want to start terminology with
strace, something like strace terminology log.out 2 log.err. And
also under default valgrind tool with valgrind terminology. Then
create another ticket on phab with log.out and log.err attached and
the output of valgrind. Maybe we can start to figure out what happen
 to you.

And we had a lot of issue reported in the past by gentoo user due to
them playing with all the possible knob and not understanding what
they did mean... That's why there is now an ever changing insane line
to add to configure every time you push a risky knob. Maybe gentoo
started to work around it and it is just bitting you back :-)

[e-users] possible issues with efl and e18.8

2015-01-19 Thread Todd Hought
Running into an odd one here, building a new desktop with enlightenment,
and on a bare install, when I fire up enlightenment, I get two things:

1. on startup, E takes up *all* of the system memory, including the swap,
for about 30-45 seconds, and then suddenly, frees it all back up, but
system is completely unusable during that time.
2. the wallpaper picker doesn't display any images to choose from to set a
wallpaper, and doesn't seem to want to display any kinds of image files in
general.

I suspect these two problems are probably related in some way, so just
wondering if someone has seen this and can go Oh! It's 'x' or 'y' that
fixes it

details: efl 1.22.2 with enlightenment 0.18.8 running on Gentoo (perhaps a
build flag might be missing? clearly mine to sort out, of course)

Re: [e-users] pidgin 2 windows

2014-12-22 Thread Todd Hought
I've noticed that it'll do that unless you've got a tray for it to close
to. I usually just use 'trayer' so that it's got something to close
(minimize) to.

Hi, I have a weird problem with pidgin. I usually deal
with it killing it and restarting again but it is quite
 annyoing. This is E-0.19.1, efl-1.12.2.

Here it goes, pidgin is an instant messaging application. It
has 2 windows, one for the List of friends and another one
 for the conversations.

But as soon as I close my List for friends window
it disappears and there is no way to bring it back. It appears
 as defunct in ps.

Even funnier, I am able to crash E if I type:

/usr/bin/wmctrl -a Pidgin

Pressing then F1 fixes the environment.

I guess maybe I am using it wrong and I should minimize instead
of closing ? But it wasn't always like that. There was a time
in a previous E that pidgin run better. Sorry if I am not more
 specific.
Maybe pidgin behaviour is tuned for Unity or something.

If I spotted some kind of but I can file it. Tell me what
more information can I gather to help you fix it.

I tried a plugin to join both windows in one, but it is alpha
and did more wrong than right.
I am open to try an alternative to pidgin anyway :)

Re: [e-users] Menus don't work in E 0.17.5

2014-01-09 Thread Todd Hought
Yep, I'm seeing the exact same thing, the clicks don't register on an
displays beyond the first one.

Also of note is that e segfaults on startup with a second monitor, but then
recovers every time. Haven't recompiled to get the debug yet tho, so that's
untraceable right now.

[e-users] e segfaults, then loses keystrokes

2008-01-31 Thread Todd Hought
I'm having an issue where E will suddenly segfault, (as shown in
/var/log/messages) and shortly after that I lose the ability to type
anything but the following keys:
bceghjnopquvyz

every other keystroke, including ctrl/alt/shift, are non responsive, the
only solution i've found is to wipe out my .e/ directory and log back in.

I know I had experienced something like this a while back but can't remember
what exactly fixed it.

Any ideas?

Re: [e-users] lost all keybindings, and use of alt-key

2007-08-20 Thread Todd Hought
Well, I tried wiping out my .e/ directory, and that worked, save for
having to recreate every single keybinding i've got, only to find that
if I restart enlightenment, the EXACT SAME THING happens. *poof* I have
no keybindings, no Fn keys, alt no longer functions, nothing.

All this because I want a new background and for some reason, the
picture selector window is completely greyed out when I try to select an
image. One would think I could just place an .edj file in the
backgrounds directory, and go into the enlightenment config, then just
set the background in a text file, but wait, all the config files are
binary now. Seems to be quite a step backwards, IMHO.

Any ideas on how to fix either of these problems?
