you have an scim problem. scim - the scim library hangs in scm trrying to
connect to the scim input server. i don't know why it hangs. even if scim is
run and set up by e it still doesn't work. you have a bug to report to scim
land. oddly enouhg not all arch installs are affected. it works on one of my
arch boxes fine, on the other i get this hang. i've traced it down to there. i
just switched to using ibus on that machine instead of scim :)

[e-users] Newbie problem

2016-07-11 Thread Charles
I just installed Arch on a my new laptop and was trying out
Enlightenment (current Arch repository versions). Whenever I run
Elementary, after a while it (Elementary) always locks up--doesn't
respond to any keys or mouse. I can simulate the problem by immediately
pressing a backspace when I first load it. I can do other things in
Enlightenment including starting new Elementary instances, but
eventually they always lock up. It's possible it is always caused by
backspace although pressing backspace doesn't always cause the problem
unless I type it first thing. Anyway, I have to manually kill the
Elementary instances for even the title bar doesn't respond.

I've done searches and not found anyone else having this problem. My old
wm I've used for years, pekwm, works fine so I have no reason to suspect
a hardware problem. Any ideas or suggestions?

[e-users] newbie to enlightenment and I have a keyboard issue and another question

2013-10-31 Thread Kevin Martin
I'm running Fedora rawhide with LXDE and am trying enlightenment as the Window
Manager for the first time and it seems pretty cool
but I have a couple of problems that I can't seem to get around (and maybe it's
related to running E and LXDE together, I'm not sure).

My first problem (and maybe the real problem) is that upon getting LXDE and E
running I see a white line across the middle of the
screen. That white lines seems to be some kind of demarc between virtual
screen and non-virtual screen. If I hover over it I get
an LXDE panel at the bottom of the screen; as soon as I move off the white line
the E shelf shows at the bottom as expected.

The second issue is that no matter what I start up (xterm, lxterminal, Firefox,
Thunderbird, etc.) I get *no* ability to type in
them. I've tried switching focus models to be mouse-over, click to focus, etc.
but it appears that my focus is lost and I don't
know where the focus might be. I've had to switch back to a different WM until
I can get this figured out.

I'm hoping that some of you might have seen this behaviour before. I'm trying
to run enlightenment-0.17.4-4.fc21, FWIW.

Thanks

Kevin

[e-users] Newbie e17 questions

2011-06-26 Thread Nathan Hüsken
Hi,

I am new to e17 and have a questions I was unable to figure out:

How to I set/change the keyboard shortcut for running run everything?
I know how to set a keyboard shortcut, I just do not know how I can
connect it to run everything.

Also, can I have somehow an digital and not an analog clock in the shelf?

Thanks!

with current svn you can change the clock to digital mode. otherwise
there is tclock module.

In that case you most likely will need to fetch the module's source
from the svn and build/install it yourself.

there are instructions for that in the README, in case of a problem
just reply back and we can look at it (to point you to the right
direction) :)

Unfortunately there is still no ppa for e17 snapshots, but being up to

2010-05-23 Thread Ernst W. Winter
Hello everyone,

well I installed enlightenment with e16 on a Lapyop with FreeBSD
8.1-PRERELEASE and it looks nice, Still I will have to get used to do
things in a different way.

I used kde in the beginning but left it for Windowmaker, which is
nice and stable as well fast. Will see if I can mangae to get going
with enlightenment now.

Fist of all where can you change the setins of say xterm and
anohter part I am used is that i have gkrellm2 running as I have most
the things in it I need and want, but how can I put it in say the
right-hand top corner and it will remain there?

Is it also possible to have on the Main menu submenues like I have
with windowmaker?

Thanks in advance if you can help. So far no problems with fonts or
anything else.

Re: [e-users] [Newbie] Customize the look feel of applications

2008-02-14 Thread Ivan
You can't just use ETK on GTK applications, you have to rewrite them, and
that's no easy task.
If you want gtk apps to match your E theme, find a gtk theme that matches
as closely as possible, and use it. Google for gtkrc, there are some programs
to set it accordingly if you don't want to do it manually.

Hi all!

I'm new to this list and quite new to Enlightenment as well.

While making up a software design, I'm interested whether it is possible to
let evas render into a memory buffer that can be read out afterwards?

If so, how to?

Any help is deeply appreciated,

You are fooling us, aren't you? First, this is not an enlightenment
question. This is basic c problem.

 unsigned char* data;
 ImlibImage *newIm; ImlibImage *newId;
 int i,j;

I suppose it is a copy and paste error that you have this two times.

   unsigned char* data;
 ImlibImage *newIm; ImlibImage *newId;
 int i,j;

 for(i=190;i280;i++)
   {
 for(j=215;j283;j++)
   {
 = data[3*(i+w*j)+0] = (im-rgb_data[3*(i+w*j)+0]);

You have not allocated memory for data.

 data[3*(i+w*j)+1] = (im-rgb_data[3*(i+w*j)+1]);
data[3*(i+w*j)+2] = (im-rgb_data[3*(i+w*j)+2]);
   }
   }

[e-users] Newbie using Didier E16

2005-08-22 Thread Jim Summers

Hello List,

I have just begun using enlightenment. I am currently using e16 from
didier's yum repository. I then got the e16-epplets-base off of
sourceforge and did a simple configure; make; make install.

It appears that the epplets were installed in /usr/enlightenment. I can
not get any of the epplets to show up in the menuing system and when I
execute and epplet from the command line I get an error regarding that
the epplet can not create epplet-config in ~/.enlightenment/..

Which with the didier rpm the user config directory is .e16.

I have also installed the e17 development and wasn't sure if that may be
confusing them.

I have added /usr/enlightenment to my PATH but no resolve.

Any suggestions on the best way to get the epplets to work with this
install?

TIA,
jim

[e-users] Newbie question: Entrance

2005-08-19 Thread Alejandro Salas
Hi everyone,

I just compiled e17 and entrance with the get_e.sh
script from rasterman website. On a tutorial
(https://vogelweith.homeftp.net/Linux/e17_en.php#x1-60001.1)
I read the following:
 Finally, in order for Entrance to start during boot,

 you must create the following links in /etc/rc*.d
with
 the following command (This command is based on the
wdm  settings):
 # update-rc.d entrance start 99 2 3 4 5 . stop 01 0
1 6

But I'm a bit lost with that. Could someone explain to
me how I can start Entrance during boot?.

Thanx

Hi,
If you already installed/compiled Entrance, the you just need to configure it (which is recommended but not necessary), using $ edb_gtk_ed /etc/entrance_config.db

So that you start Entrace when you boot, you need to change in /etc/rc.conf the variable DISPLAYMANAGER=entrance

I think it is because Entrance doesn't start gnome-settings-daemon at

And have you ensured that your framebuffer isn't being set to a default 8-bit
root? When running Gnome, type xdpyinfo and see what the depth of root

in /etc/dt/config/Xservers - make one if you don't have one - read the man page.

It's more likely that Ben's right and you have an Imlib problem, though.

2005-03-02 Thread Mark R. Bowyer

And have you ensured that your framebuffer isn't being set to a default 8-bit
root? When running Gnome, type xdpyinfo and see what the depth of root
window is. This can be controlled with a defdepth 24 added to the last line
in /etc/dt/config/Xservers - make one if you don't have one - read the man page.

It's more likely that Ben's right and you have an Imlib problem, though.

Mark.

You are most likely using an old version of menuedit (if it is below
2, forget it) and those are broken. You'll have to edit them manually.
But it is not that hard, just take a look at:
~/.enlightenment/user_apps.menu for example. Look at all the .menu
files and you'll learn pretty quickly how to use them. Another option
is to download a newer version of menuedit, look for a thread on this

No... copy them to your .enlightenment and edit them there. It is a
better practice, I guess. Unless you want to make changes that will
affect all the users on your computer

Oh! Now I get it! Just right-click on the destop background. A menu
called Settings will show up. Select Virtual Desktop Settings
Now uncheck Enable edge flip. Was that it? You should really take a

OH!! That's the pager! You don't really want to turn it off, if you get
used to it is fantastic! I can't imagine life without edge scrolling in
some manner between desktops, its one of the best things I enjoy about
using Linux.

Try it for a while, adjust the sensitivity of the edge scroll/flip
whatever you want to call it. Your desktop organization will
dramatically improve.

I'm pretty sure embryo depends on evas.
IIRC it asks for evas-config

Really? I thought evas wouldn't have eet/edb support without the loaders. (at
least, that's what I recall from my experiments. :)

[e-users] newbie question: how to compile CVS file?

2004-08-17 Thread Lydia Zeo
Hi List,
I downloaded e17 from CVS, but I have no idea how to
compile the ELF. I am beginner to Linux environment (I
am using RH 8.0). What I normally do to compile a
source file are. /configure, make and make install.
But I couldn’t find any configure file in the CVS
source.
Is there any e17 build guide? I need some pointer……
Thanks in advanced….

Cheers
Lydia

cd in the directory and do a

--
./autogen.sh
--

then a

-
make

make install
---
and you're done. :-)

You have to compile the EFLs in the correct order.

Suggested order is:

# eet
# edb
# imlib2
# embryo
# evas
# ecore
# edje
# epeg
# epsilon
# etox
# esmart
# ewl
# iconbar
# engage
# entice
# entrance
# examine
# elicit
# emotion [Well this one you technically can place it anywhere you want
to!]

With kind regards,

Didier.

Re: [e-users] Newbie questions

2003-07-29 Thread phriedrich
Hallo

let's try to find some solutions...

 1) I will use idesk to create icons? How can I start this automatically
 during the start of E. I searched for a kind of enlightenmentrc but I
 didn't find it.

The file you search for is ~/.enlightenment/...e_session-XX.snapshots.0
In this file there are listed the parameters for applications which you have remembered
(ALT+rightclick, choose remember) or for this who did this automatically (for example
iconboxes, pagers etc.)
But you can also edit this file with an editor and add some lines:

-snipp-

NEW: transparent.Eterm
NAME: transparent
CLASS: ETERM
DESKTOP: 0
RES: 1280 1024
WH: 394 179
XY: 3 2 0 0
LAYER: 2
STICKY: 1
SHADE: 0
BORDER: BORDERLESS
CMD: Eterm -0 --scrollbar=false --name=transparent --borderless

-snapp--

This creates a transparent Eterm, on top-left corner of all virtual desktops with a
size
of 394x179 pixels, which is allways under every other window (the Layer option).

Or quite simple:

-snipp---
NEW: xscreensaver
NAME: xscreensaver
CLASS: xscreensaver
CMD: xscreensaver
snapp-

 2) After some time I get confused by the pure amount of windows. There
 is no tasbar for overview - or is there a possibility to have a look on
 started apps. I mean a kind of a iconbar not only for iconized apps.

I don't know one
I use 4 virtual desktops (2x2) and the pager shows every application then
Or try ALT-TAB to switch between the applications.

 3) Is there a possibility to use a start panel? Perhaps there is a
 separate plug-in or something similar.

Either you start the gnome-panel or you search the web for FancyLauncher

I hope I could help you

bye

Friedrich

[e-users] Newbie questions

2003-07-28 Thread Christel Dr. Frank Biendara
Hello,

I really like enlightenment because of his fastness and beauty ;)

In spite of this I have some questions left:

2) After some time I get confused by the pure amount of windows. There

3) Is there a possibility to use a start panel? Perhaps there is a

Thanks in advance for help.
