Sorry, I didn't read carefully. Also no need to use the authentication if
you can use your own ISP as smtp.

And since he's (presumably) connecting through earthlink he won't be able to
use smtp.mac.com to send mail.

Careful, that's only if you use smtp.mac.com as the smtp server. According
to his original email he was using smtp.earthlink.net.

you should use mail.mac.com as your POP server.

Subject: Newbie/mac.com request

Sorry for the mundane question, but I have what I'm sure will be a simple
request/solution.

I've just made the switch from Claris Emailer to Entourage.

(I've been a big fan of jud spencer--his kindness and patience to the folks
on the emailer list after it EOLed is one example, However, even his
programming expertise couldn't compel me to make the switch to Outlook. I've
made the jump now to Entourage for a number of reasons and am happy to see
he's still a major player.)

To the problem:

I can get mail from my mac.com addresses when I go back to emailer, but I
can't get my mac.com mail while in Entourage. That leads me to believe I
have entered the information incorrectly in the Entourage account setup.

I'm not able to correctly configure my mac.com account information.

In Emailer, the info is entered thusly:

Account name: BDMac
User name: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Email account: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Email password: *
SMTP server: mail.earthlink.net
Email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Where xxx is the same for all three lines.

In Entourage, the info requested is slightly different enough to throw me:

Account name: BDMac
Personal Information
Name: Barry B. Doyle
Email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Receiving mail
Account ID: barrydoyle
POP Server: mail.earthlink.net
Save password: *

Sending mail
SMTP server: mail.earthlink.net

I'm sure most will see the glaring error I've committed, but I can't. It
must have something to do with the POP server ID which isn't clearly
identified as such in the Emailer account setup.

I have six different mac.com accounts for different family members. As I've
said, it will collect the email in Emailer, but not in Entourage the way I
currently have it configured.

Thanks for the help.

Not that I know of. I am very short of time, or I'd give it a shot; should
be fairly easy.

Fabulous tip! One of those "DUH.. Why didn't I think of that!" types.

I'd love to see more of this type of thing in addition to the
troubleshooting that goes on in the list.

Re: Forward as attachment script

2001-10-10 Thread Carsten & Uni Vous Ortmann

Thanks, Allen.

I actually knew this :-), and the reason I would like the script is that I
have my E'rage window sized to fill out my entire (iMac)screen :-o which
makes it not possible to drag a message onto a new window without hiding
that new window in the process.

It's not a big deal, it's just that it would be handy to select a number of
messages, hit a key-combination and voila!!

If it's around somewhere, it'd be nice. If not, living without it is
possible

Peace (a sadly relevant greeting these days, isn't it?)

If you have several contacts you want moved to a personal folder...

Assign a category to your contacts. Next create a rule:

Is not from a mailing list
>From is in Category xxx

Move to folder xxx

This is much easier than creating a Rule that lists each individual contact
or having to create a Group.

Categories are one of the features that I am just getting to appreciate as a
great tool.

HTML mail toggle?

2001-10-10 Thread Lewis Pennock

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can not find an HTML mail
toggle suitable for use on a message by message basis. Does one exist?

I finally got around to unchecking the "Display Complex HTML in Messages"
check box in the preference because bad HTML mail was the main culprit in
locking up Entourage. Now, however, what do I do if upon opening an e-mail,
I see that it is complex HTML from a friend and I want to view it in all its
glory? Currently I have to go to the mail and news preferences and check
the box, go back to the message to view it, and then go uncheck the box.

If it isn't anywhere, that would be a great feature, a "view this message in
regular HTML format" button in the message's tool bar.

Re: Script for Spamcop reporting...

2001-10-10 Thread Allen Watson
Title: Re: Script for Spamcop reporting...

I have one that worked for Entourage last time I tried it, which was months ago:

-- this script takes a message in Ent, copies the headers to the clipboard,
-- and opens a new window in MSIE
-- it only works on one message at a time

tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
set currentMessages to the current messages
repeat with theMsg in the currentMessages
my ProcessMsg(theMsg)
exit repeat
end repeat
end tell

on ProcessMsg(theMsg)

tell application "Microsoft Entourage"
-- activate -- use only if not already in Entourage
set messHeaders to source of the theMsg
set the clipboard to messHeaders as string
end tell

tell application "Internet Explorer"
Activate -- delete to keep IE in background
OpenURL "http://spamcop.net/?code=ze3827fab9afaf5f25a0797274943d0d3zallenwatson%40earthlink.net
" toWindow 0 -- replace with the correct URL
end tell
end ProcessMsg

You don't need a script. Just create a new message, and drag the message you
want to attach onto it; it will become an attachment. I did a reply to your
message, and then dragged your message onto the reply so it became an
attachment. (HAD TO REMOVE the attachment and resend, since the list does

Diane Ross is a personal friend. She sends me personal messages from time to
time. She is also on a couple of mailing lists, like this one. The MLM sees
all messages addressed to the list and filters them into my "Entourage"
folder. But the personal messages don't get picked up by the MLM; they fall
through. Then, I have a regular rule that says, in essence, if "From"
contains "Diane Ross" then file the message in the folder "Diane".
