One has to wonder if the people setting up the group buy pulled that  
target price out of their ass. I can sympathize with Nissan if that  
price is below wholesale or worse. Are you really losing "sales" if you  
would have to actually pay the people to take the cars? I would tout how  
much money I saved the company by not giving away the cars at a loss.  
And I doubt Tesla will want to tender a group buy for $20k per car when  
they've got 400,000 to sell at full list price first.

If you were going to CMT, I believe there is charging right across H street 
on the 2nd level of the parking structure (SE corner).  I know they were not 
hooked up for some time after the garage was built but I think I have seen 
cars charging as I came to the shows this year and possibly last year as 
well.

I was playing bassoon, baritone sax, clarinet & bass clarinet.  It was a 
challenging part.  I had to play clarinet solos and when they flute and oboe 
where playing it was me alone on clarinet.  I am usually a bassoonist so this 
is challenging for me.  This musical hasn't made it to Broadway yet and Disney 
has s lot riding on this work.  Lawrence Rhodes

Then just put them on the down hill portion of Highways where vehicles are
braking or using a lower gear to keep the speed down. Like coming off the
Grapevine (I5). Put them in the right hand lanes where heavy trucks are
actually trying to slow down. Leave the lefthand lane for EV's who are
enjoying the regen of going down hill.

 Harness the energy of slowing down - or not speeding up because of gravity.

In order to make the impact on the vehicle's efficiency small, you
sacrifice the amount of energy you can capture per unit foot of roadway.
So in order to capture really useful amounts of energy, you need lots of
piezo collectors, and a lot of wiring. Your infrastructure costs are
significant.

Further, in order to "capture some of the energy now lost in flexing the
roadbed" you would need to make stiffer roads. Concrete has a high
compressive strength, on the order of 8-10,000psi. The compacted sand
and gravel substrate beneath, not so much. There's where your road
flexes. So to stiffen the road, pour more concrete. Currently, we're
coming up on a worldwide cement shortage, raising construction prices
substantially. Good sand is also growing short, necessitating more
costly aggregate and fill materials. This is the background against
which you must measure the additional cost of any energy collection system.

We won't discuss the "squishy" character of asphalt and the
near-impossibility of capturing that energy -- basically new road
construction methods and materials are needed to provide a
minimally-flexing substrate for your energy-collection layer to function
at its best.

Theoretically, there might be some energy to be gained there.
Practically, it looks like it would substantially increase the cost of
road construction. And here in Ohio, where "road construction" is one of
the seasons of our year, the cost of both initial construction and
especially repairs would be more than is politically affordable. The
Highway Trust Fund is pretty tapped out now.

After the slow-selling Ampera, the European arm of General Motors is having
another go at electrification with the all-new Ampera-e. Slated to make its
public debut on September 29 during the Paris Motor Show, the Opel /
Vauxhall Ampera-e promises a lot.

Before anything, I must highlight something which doesn’t sound right to me.
Opel tells that the Ampera-e “also offers a significantly longer range than
most other electric cars.” I’m sorry, but come again? An “in this segment”
is much needed in there to eliminate any type of confusion, at least until
Tesla Motors finishes research & development on the hottest EV of the
moment.

Now let’s focus on what makes the Chevy Bolt Opel Ampera-e great. As you can
see in the adjacent video, the Ampera-e outaccelerates the Corsa OPC,
Insignia OPC, Adam RS, and the Astra TCR in a 30-meter (100-foot) drag race.
Better still, the compact EV hits 50 km/h (31 mph) in 3.2 seconds, which
means that the Ampera-e has the edge in traffic-light-to-traffic-light
sprints.

Top speed is limited to 150 km/h (93.2 mph), which is more than enough if
you’re living anywhere else but that country with the unrestricted
autobahns. Another impressive detail regarding the Ampera-e is how this car
picks up speed from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph). All it takes is 4.5
seconds, so yes, the Opel Ampera-e can handle its own during high-speed
overtakes.

The German manufacturer also reiterates that the electric powertrain is good
for 150 kW or 204 PS (201 horsepower in U.S. money). The 360 Nm (265 lb-ft)
of torque also come in handy, especially when you consider that the Opel
Astra 1.6 BiTurbo CDTI is 10 newton meters short on the Ampera-e.

What the peeps at Opel fail to mention, though, is the NEDC-rated range of
this heavily-anticipated electric runabout. In the case of the 2017
Chevrolet Bolt, we're expecting more than 200 miles (322 kilometers) of
juice.

Oh, and by the way, don’t get your hopes up for adaptive cruise control.

3 EV after Nissan made a move that could irk as much as 3700 potential
Nissan Leaf buyers. Tesla’s Model 3 and Nissan’s LEAF are the major EVs

events,   Nissan Canada’s president has rejected the group buy offer and
effectively shut down the plan.

If Nissan had agreed to the proposal, the firm would have sold each of the
cars at a 37.5% discount to the sticker price. The original $31,988 sticker
price of the Nissan leaf is about $13,000 CAD or 29% cheaper than sticker
price of Tesla‘s Model 3, which sells for $45,200 CAD. It is common
knowledge in the auto market that Nissan is trying to compete with Tesla on
the price front in the EV market.

What Nissan lacks in the premium branding/premium tech of Tesla, it hopes to
make up by making its cars significantly cheaper. Hence, it is doubtful that
Nissan has much of a margin left on the LEAF at its $32,000 sticker price.
Without much ado, Nissan cannot afford to agree to the proposals for the
group-buy but the buyers think Nissan is not serious about selling its cars
to them.

Bye bye Leaf, Hi Tesla Model 3

Nissan could have recorded its biggest auto sale for the LEAF and probably
set a sales record that other automakers might never beat for a very long
time. However, the fact that the firm has refused to slash its prices for
bulk order is sending those Nissan LEAF buyers into the waiting arms of
Tesla Motors.

Roulezelectrique, a Canadian blog that broke the news about Nissan’s refusal
has an official video and statement from Nissan to the effect. Yet, it is
doubtful that Tesla Motors will give any significant discount on its cars
because it already has a backlog of 400K preorders.

Interestingly, many of those who have signed up for the group buy have
expressed their displeasure with Nissan. One of the buyers said,” Nissan has
lost some sales including mine … We’ll wait Tesla3! So long Nissan! “Another
reader said, “I own a 2011 Nissan Leaf and dreamed of a 2016 or 2017 with
the purchase group, but let me tell you that I now look for the Cheverolet
Bolt or Tesla 3. Bye bye Nissan!!!”
