But taken the other huge delays, I don't care much at all about this delay. *nod* mailing list' continues to work usefully, its still not going to be as fast as mutt, although it should be faster than currently. Well, if you could get it to be at least as fast as Mozilla is (in terms of reading a folder), then it would be good. Well, we're working on it, but it might take a whiel to realise it. This is already what it does. ok, great. then my error must come from some other problem with the particular provider i tested it with today. i guess i was expecting more than one progress bar when sending to more than one server like for the receiving progress and the error message did not tell me with which message and which server the error happened. 6) how about customizable key strokes like gimp I think you are referring to a bug in gtk... that isn't actually a designed feature in the gimp. i know it's gtk, but in my gimp it works, in my evolution not. aren't they using the same gtk when running on the same machine? No, not possible. 8) a filter based on whether the sender/recipient is in a certain contacts folder or category would be nice. this is already in our bug/feature-request tracking system. do you want me to enter the uncommented features in there? 9) how about preselecting the default account in the from field instead of the one listed first in the mail settings. It already does this too. didn't work for me but i just fixed it: my first account was the local linux user account but i had entered the same email address as my default account ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). then the new message dialog selected always [EMAIL PROTECTED] (username) with sendmail as the smtp. now that i changed the address to username@localmost.mydomain it works like a charm. thanks for you time, i didn't expect it'd be that easy to get rid of these things that annoyed me. :) again: great program! bye fabian Jeff -- Jeffrey Stedfast Evolution Hacker - Ximian, Inc. Re: [Evolution] Features possible?
I have a few nitpicks with Evolutions right now, and I'm wondering if any of these things are possible? Perhaps I overlooked some configuration options ... * When a filter is applied that moves a message to another folder, the original message is left in my inbox but marked as deleted. How do I expunge that message from the folder once it's moved? You click on 'expunge' * Similar to the above, when I manually move a message to another folder, can I have it automatically expunged? Yes, by clicking 'expunge'. Youcould just turn on 'hide deleted messages' which is probably what you really want but dont realise. * The default search type is Message contains but I find myself 99% of the time using Sender contains. Is there a way to change the default? Edit ~/evolution/searches.xml and change the order. Also, as I begin to use vfolders, I find myself wanting the ability to do full boolean queries ((a b) || (c d), say). Is this planned for future versions? Not with the gui, you could try writing raw expressions. Thanks for a truly awesome email client. (The only one that has managed to make me switch from Mutt.) Re: [Evolution] Default format for new folders ?
No there isn't. But if you're using maildir, i'd suggest you setup a new 'mail account' which has a server type 'maildir' and point it to a maildir tree. Then you can just create as many maildir folders as you want. The only 'drawback' is you can't have the folders intermingled with other local folders ( calendars etc), but otherwise things should work just fine. Re: [Evolution] No new snapshots?
Nothing but RC packages are available, becuase we'd like to test them more, obviously. As when 1.0 is frozen its actually going to be stuck onto physical media, and not something people will want to update every day. This why updates to the codebase have slowed down so much, every patch is being reviewed and only serious show-stoppers are making it into cvs anyway so that no 'unknown features' get added trying to fix other bugs. I would imagine that bandwidth gets pretty expensive when you have people downloading packages they already have installed, just so they can get the latest snapshot. It doesn't really make any sense to keep running rpm upgrades on packages if the files don't change, that's just asking for something to break. I doubt it'd make much difference. We did some profiling, it was only minor. Hi ! My laptop (as several laptops) has a sloow HD. Re: [Evolution] Re: local inbox vs. IMAP inbox
It might be that 'filter new messages in inbox' is set on the imap account and there is a rule that moves messages ot the local inbox or something (although afaik it should use the remote inbox if nothing matches). IMAP doesn't download messages otherwise, they remain on the server. Unless you're using POP to access it, which is of course, not what you should be doing if you want to use IMAP. Re: [Evolution] Applying filters automatically
Do you mean new as in unread, or new as in recent? Hello, I should have added that I'm sure Evolution is the only IMAP client looking at my mail, yet when I start it up it doesn't apply filters to the many new messages in my INBOX. Maybe there is something wrong with the IMAP server I am using such that it is not marking mails as \Recent correctly ? Again, it only seems to be mails tha arrive while I'm actually connected to the IMAP server with Evolution that get filtered. Dave. Ah, right, that's probably your problem. The IMAP server will tell Evolution a messages is Recent if this is the first session to be told about that message. But if you connected earlier from another IMAP client, then it won't be Recent when Evolution sees it. The reason we only filter Recent messages is because you might have a mark messages from my boss as Important filter, but if you turn the flag off by hand, you don't want Evolution to re-mark it next time you start up. Re: [Evolution] Extremely long link times
This is libtools fault mostly, but also gnome-config's fault (because of limitations which pushed the problem into libtool i guess). There's a patch around for libtool 1.4 which is supposed to address it a little (try the archives). Most of the time is spend in a stupid shell script which attempts to detect link dependencies, which also blows out the link line. ld thankfully doesn't slow down that much (well at least gnu ld) because of it. Lo, When linking something this seems to stick out like sore thumb: The link command line has more than 10 times references to libraries like libz, libdl, libXext, libX11, libSM, etc. The list really goes on and on and on. So, could this contribute to the extremely long link times I have? And, where does the mega long link command line and duplicate lib references come from? [Evolution] Filter/vFolder on mailing list now matches domains
Hi All, Just thought i'd let people know i've changed the way filtering and vfoldering on mailing lists works a little bit; as defined when you create the rule using the menu's. It now tries to determine domain info for your rule. If the rule doesn't have domaine info in it though (a previously defined rule, or a manually edited one), then it will ignore domain info. If you want to create a new rule and disable domain matching, just remove the @domain part from it, it will still match just based on the list name (which for example, helps with old gnome-hackers mail that moved server). So existing filter and vfolder rules should not be affected, except for one case. The old code for matchng against some lists that use List-Id only as the list identification mechanism was very wrong and has been redone. If you have any match mailing list filters or vfolders that stop working, you may have to recreate them (and may also have to force evooution to rebuild summaries, since they cache this information). This shouldn't affect many lists (none of the ximian or gnome lists I believe), but just incase 'heads up' (i might've accidentally broken some rules, but i got jeff to check, they should be ok). This minor breakage was much 'cheaper' to do thatn it would be after 1.0. If you dont know why this change was necessary, think of poor people who might be [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... Using symlinks is entirely unsupported. Using maildir format or an IMAP server are the way to go. The mbox format should be compatible though, and so long as locking can work properly (you can't just symlink the mbox file for example) and netscape actually locks the files, it should be ok. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --090305040201020505070105 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I want to share my mail between Mozilla and Evolution. In fact, I'm currently doing just that. My question is: is this /safe/? I saw the FAQ question ``Can I read mail from a mailbox file created by some other application?'' However, I have two problems with this: 1. Even after following the directions, it didn't work quite as I expected. (I didn't see the messages I expected to see). 2. Even if it *did* work, it would be undesirable. I want to share /all/ my mail...over 250 MB worth, spread over 30 directories and over 230 files. Repeating the stes of FAQ #11 over 230 times is not my idea of a good thing. I previously looked for an answer to this question on the list archives (http://lists.ximian.com/archives/public/evolution/), and saw a message from [EMAIL PROTECTED] on August 7 that contained the beginnings of a shell script. So in my infinite wisdom (or lack thereof), I enhanced it into a shell script that would take all of my Mozilla mail and create a corresponding Evolution mail directory structure, using symlinks to connect the ``mbox'' files. The script is attached, if anyone is interested. However, while this works as I'd expect, and works reasonably well, I don't know if this is safe. For all I know, Evolution stores additional information in the ``mbox'' file, which Mozilla won't like. Or vice versa. Is there any way to know if what I'm doing will work? Or am I guaranteeing that I'll lose my mail doing this? Re: [Evolution-hackers] bold folders are not showing up in latest
Yeah upgrade. And dont fill this list with this stuff, mail evolution@ please. Hello, I have the same problem with the latest CVS version. It's pretty annoying, I have to double check my email in PINE to be sure no message *gets lost* :( because of the filters Any known solutions? Alexandru On Tue, 2001-09-11 at 05:55, Douglas F.
