Re: [Evolution] Evolution backups: is there a max size of the evolution-backup-20171231.tar.gz file

Backups are every 3 or 4 months to capture emails + attachments. So, I
gather that there are no file size or segmentation issues that would
limit the size of produced evolution-backup.tar.gz files? Thanks.

You don't say what version of Evolution you have. Please *always* state
this when asking questions (Help->About).

As has been discussed several times on the list, the Backup function is
really a misnomer. It's not intended for regular daily backups but for
capturing the state of your mail (and only your mail, not contacts,
tasks, address book etc.) when moving to a new system. You should use a
standard home directory backup strategy as well as (or instead of) this
function.

That said, the backup is just a big tar.gz file with the local state in
it. If your file won't grow beyond a certain size there might be a
limitation of some kind in your system, such as maximum file size or
disk quota.

2017-12-31 Thread glenn
Hi all-
My Evolution backup appear to be topping out at 7.7 gb in size. Is this
a maximum size for the produced evolution-backup-20171231.tar.gz file?

I've been using Evolution since the Ximian days: some of the items in
my backups stretch back to that era. Happy New Years. Glenn

"Ancient version"? This release is less than three months old. I
wouldn't call that "ancient".

In the past Ubuntu has shipped Evolution from a complete GNOME release
cycle back, or even two at times, that's true, but let's give them to
credit for better behavior when they exhibit it: the version they ship
with 17.10 (released in mid-October) was the most current version at
that time (3.26.1, released 02 Oct).

The problem currently with Ubuntu is that since Evolution is not part
of the main distribution, they don't seem to update to the newer stable
releases such as 3.26.2, 3.26.3, etc.

Sounds to me as if there are application specific key bindings in place. The
1-5 keys must be bound to some function.

A text field should override such key binds but obviously something is going on.___

Ubuntu seems to ship an ancient version.

[Evolution] Some keys not enterable in search?

2017-12-31 Thread Paul Smith
Here's something super-strange: I can't type the numbers 0-5 into the
search bar (the one at the top of the vertical view showing both
subjects and message preview) in Evolution!!

Can anyone else see this? I can enter all the alphabetic and special
characters that I tried, plus the numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9, but not 0
through 5...?!?!?! It does work to enter the special characters )!@#$%
(shifted 0-5). Of course, the numbers work fine elsewhere.

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 / Evolution 3.26.1.

Re: [Evolution] evolution in ubuntu

2017-12-31 Thread Herr Oswald
Thank you all for your replies and all the info given. I learned a lot
and I'll think about the proposals made. Especially the idea of trying
to package evo myself appeals to me.

I wish you all the best for the year to come.

Cheers,
