You probably do want the libraries.

In the past I have written Perl scripts to rip up mbox files in about
five minutes.

However, getting the various text encodings decoded correctly and
wrapping flowed text into 72 columns with correct ">" quote marks is
much trickier.

Depending on what you define as quick and easy, exporting to mbox and
then writing a script to parse the mbox file and export the parts you
want should be straightforward. Most languages have mbox parsing

Hi together,

there might be another way to export the complete mail to text (I have
tested the way on Ubuntu 20.04) - but it works only with mails in plain
text format (HTML does not work)!

 * install cups-pdf to get a local pdf-printer on your system (for all
   applications
 * install poppler-utils (there is a script called pdftotext included)
 * print the mail you want to get as a text-file via cups-pdf. On my
system cups-pdf is configuered to put the pdf-file in
   /var/spool/cups-pdf/$LOGNAME
 * create a temporary directory for working, eg. /tmp/export-pdf
 * select all pdf-files you want as a textfile and copy/move them from
cups-pdf directory to the temporary folder
 * cd into /tmp/export-pdf
 * run following commands: for i in *.pdf; do pdftotext $i; done
 * you will find a bunch of textfiles, named like your pdf-file, but
   with suffix .txt

That's it.

Best regards

Max

A manual way would look like:
a) view a message
b) select portion of the text you are interested in in the preview panel
c) paste it to a text editor
d) save the file
e) close the editor
f) repeat from step a) as long as other messages to save as text exist.

Hi,
the dialog itself works the same as "before". When there is nothing
happening it's hidden automatically. The quick flash you see means
there is nothing going on, thus there is nothing to cancel, thus the
dialog closes itself.

I do not know how you moved your data from one machine to another, but
I'd check how you check for new messages. Especially the "Check for new
messages in all folders" in the account Properties->Receiving Options
tab, might be of an interest. Maybe you had it enabled on the previous
install and it is disabled on the new install.

With respect of restoring the previous behaviour, the only reason why
the dialog shows up on the second click (not really double-click) is to
cover users like you, whom prefer to see it. To give you a way to have
the dialog, even it's not needed as such. Do not expect to add an
option to show the dialog on the first click.

Better to not filter at all, otherwise you can miss an important
command. Like the snapshot showed commands B00197 and B00200 - the
three commands in between could be related as well.

Do you know the Exchange server version, please? Are you able to give a
try to more recent Evolution, like 3.38.1 (can be only for testing,
thus for example in Flatpak from the flathub.org), to check whether
it'll be reproducible in that version too, to avoid searching for
something what had been fixed meanwhile.

Evolution should not call the COPY twice with the same set for sure. I
see it called only once here, after deleting two messages in a real
folder. I'm using the development version (to be 3.39.1), which is
basically the same in this regard as the 3.38.1.

By the way, Reply To List (Ctrl+L) works better for me on this list.

Hi,
I guess it's waiting for a response from one of the servers. It may
take around 90 seconds before the request times out (for each of the
requests - see below). Which exact server does not respond I do not
know. You might be able to get to the information when running
evolution under gdb, but I doubt it's Evolution's fault (after all, the
other accounts work as expected), thus it doesn't worth it to sped time
on it.

If you'd like to try it, then I can give you some commands to do so.
Or, you can verify my hypothesis when you run these commands:

   $ wget
https://autoconfig.DOMAIN/mail/config-v1.1.xml\?emailaddress=EVOLUTIONUSER%40DOMAIN\=MD5
   $ wget
http://autoconfig.DOMAIN/mail/config-v1.1.xml\?emailaddress=EVOLUTIONUSER%40DOMAIN\=MD5
   $ wget
https://DOMAIN/.well-known/autoconfig/mail/config-v1.1.xml\?emailaddress=EVOLUTIONUSER%40DOMAIN\=MD5
   $ wget
http://DOMAIN/.well-known/autoconfig/mail/config-v1.1.xml\?emailaddress=EVOLUTIONUSER%40DOMAIN\=MD5

where the DOMAIN is the domain part of the email address you used for
the account (being it "u...@example.com", the domain is "example.com")
and the "MD5" is the checksum value of "echo u...@example.com | md5sum".
Keep the "EVOLUTIONUSER" as is.

Evolution tries each of these four addresses, in this order, until any
hits the result. If the server doesn't react in a timely fashion on any
of these addresses, then that's the time spent on the lookup.

No. Why?

No. If you only pull a few messages from a POP account then it's only
displayed for a moment. No change at all.

Reinstalling never fixes anything.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Because a lot of people found the popup incredibly annoying so it was
turned off. It doesn't provide any more information than is displayed
in the bottom info bar.

Presumably, rather than waste or remove the code that displayed the
popup it was switched to being displayed on double-click.

Is it possible there has been a corruption of one of the config files?
Perhaps the amount of time it's displayed has been altered?
I have reinstalled Evolution, but it didn't change anything.
But if there is an existing copy of the program, perhaps a corrupted
file would not get overwritten?

In that case the popup probably doesn't get a chance to be displayed
before it closes.

Double-clicking on the Send/Receive button does make the popup display
- I've just tried it on exactly the same version as you are using.

I have just tried that, nothing happened any different... Still does
not display as it used to.
All that happens is that down the bottom, alongside the online/offline
icon the mail that is sent/received is displayed, but very quickly.

Hi,

"deleting" a message by keeping it, so that it is still available by the
"show deleted messages" option and the virtual trash folder, is probably
what the original poster is looking for, but I dislike the term
"deletion" for Evolution's behaviour, since Evolution actually doesn't
delete mails this way.

In the computer realm "moving to trash" is usually distinguished from
"deletion", a deletion sometimes even is a "shredding", but at least a
"deletion" isn't archiving documents in a trash bin.

Regards,
Ralf
