RE: Exchange 5.5 on vmware server
Cathy, I have many time installed Exchange 5.5 on a VM. I have always used the bridged network setting though. This might be the issue you are having. -Original Message- From: Jackson, Cathy M [mailto:C.M.Jackson;shu.ac.uk] Sent: Monday, October 28, 2002 1:24 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 on vmware server Yes, this is purely for testing. I've set up 2 domain controllers and several other servers, but am having problems setting up Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000 virtual machine (set up as a member server in the domain). The error I'm getting is as follows: While attending to stop the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service, the following error was encountered: the requested control is not valid for this service. Microsoft Windows NT ID 0xc002041c This occurs after the files are copied to the virtual server (ie I've nearly got to the end of a normal install). After it's happened (I've tried several times!), the Exchange services services are present but not started (you can't start them manually). There's no entry in the Control panel Add remove/software to enable easy removal to allow another installation attempt, but I've tried manual removal of the exchange registry entries without success. I've also tried on another virtual machine with a clean W2K installation with the same results. The machines have 256M memory, and we're using the host-only networking configuaration. The Microsoft KB simply says they don't support this and the vmware support KB doesn't appear to have anything relevant. I seem to remember a couple of people on this list saying they used vmware, so how did you do it?! RE: IS 70GB and growing....
I'm assuming you are referring to the FC series and not the IP series. As long as they will concatenate you the proper sized LUN's, and you get the I/O requirements for your user load, you should be OK. It's been my experience that with any LUN over 36GB, EMC gets very nervous about. I'm in the process right now of trying to get 4, 143.31GB storage group volumes, 3, 33.6GB Transaction log volumes, and a Quorum volume configured for a client.. I'll let you know how it turns out after I run JetStress against them. -Original Message- From: Mark Hanji [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, October 02, 2002 3:18 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: IS 70GB and growing And may I ask why? SMTP Queues
In Exchange 5.5, when a SMTP message bound for a remote host gets queued because the remote host is temporally down, the message would sit in the IMC outbound queue as a file on disk usually in the exchsrvr\imcdata\out directory. Take for example Joe Contractor. Joe is contracted in your organization for 3 months. Joe needs a user account to gain access to file shares in order to perform his tasks. Joe have a mailbox at his consulting firm and he would like all correspondence to be sent to it. You can mail-enable Joe Contractor and use the SMTP address of his choice. You could do a directory export to capture all the current SMTP addressed. Go to the Configuration container and select the properties for the Site Addressing. RE: Offline Address Book Generation
Can you post the details of the eventID 5004? It makes a difference as to the cause of the problem. Also, what is the exact text of the popup error window when you try to manually generate the offline address book? -Original Message- From: Sabre A [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2001 4:14 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Offline Address Book Generation Greetings, some time ago I posted this question but never got a response. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas in relation to this matter. Thanks. Hi, we have an Exchange Server 5.5 SP3 environment configured with Australia as a single site with a server in each branch office as part of this site. Recently we have been having offline address book issues with laptop users, as they attempt to synchronize their PC with one particular Exchange Server's offline address book. They recieve the error message an error occured while opening the microsoft exchange offline address book files on the microsoft exchange server. When we attempt to regenerate an offline address book on this server, the operation fails, and the event log contains Event ID 5004. None of the other exchange servers in the Australian site are experiencing this issue. We have already searched through the Microsoft Knowledgebase looking for solutions but at this point have been unable to find anything which resolves the matter. Has anyone had a similar experience and sucessfully resolved the problem? Regards, Luke Cassar Technical Consultant = Dare to be indifferent -Sabre- __ Do You Yahoo!? Check out Yahoo!
