Event Service won't start
EX 5.5, NT4 SP6a Event service won't start and displays the following error message: Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Event Service service on \\s-mail Error 2140: An internal Windows NT error occured. The only entry related in EV is Event ID 5 with the following description: An unexpected MAPI error occured. Error returned was [0x80040154] This happened right after all EX 5.5 services and the Server service one day shut down and the server couldn't log on to the domain. I've seen various articles on this. One states to re-install the event service portion on 5.5 by using the add/remove. Since this most likely means stopping EX, running Optimizer and re-applying the SP, it'll have to wait for an off-peak time. In the mean time, can you point me to those articles? Can't you just delete them? They live in \system32\config and are called appevent.evt, sysevent.evt and secevent.evt. You'll obviously need the necessary privs to delete these files, alternatively fire up event viewer and clear them out. As the event log hasn't started I assume these files won't be locked open, so would thought you should be able to delete them. Event Service Won't Start or Install
Ex 5.5 SP3 NT 4.0 SP6a I'd been getting errors about the event service not starting with the following errors: Source: MSExchangeES EventID: 5 An unexpected MAPI error occurred. Error returned was [0x80004005]. This is a public folder server. The event service stopped and could not be restarted and gave me that error. I've tried to unistall the event service and reinstall it, that temporaily worked. Then it stopped again. Now when I try to reinstall the event service, I get this error and the install fails. The event service is listed under services, but when you run the exchange setup the event service is unchecked.
