RE: Email attachments

2002-07-17 Thread Ian Barlow

The problem we have is when we receive emails where people have inserted a
item (email) into a new email and the inserted item has a word attachment
etc within it

Subject: Email Attachments Disappearing

I have a single user who is having a strange problem that has me completely
stumped. This user will send out attachments to recipients outside our
organization and 2 of the recipients either get no attachment or they are
unable to open the attachment they receive. If his assistant sends the
attachment all recipients receive the files with no problems. We found at
one point that attachments arriving unopenable were getting to the user with
the extension removed from the file which was part of the reason they
couldn't open them. (example, sent FILE.DOC, recipient gets FILE and can't
open).

He has also had some success sending the same attachment to another person
in the same organization without problems but that is inconsistent.

We have verified that his mailbox seems to be normal and has the same
configuration as other users. We made sure he had SP1 installed for Outlook
and the latest version of IE (5.5 sp2).

Our environment is:
Exchange 5.5 sp3
Windows NT sp6a
Outlook 2000 sp1 client

I would appreciate any suggestions on this. Especially as the sender is our
PR director and the recipients are CEO's and the Chairman of our Board.

Thanks...

RE: Email Attachments Disappearing

2001-09-13 Thread Ray Beckwith

Good guess. He is sending RTF. After I sent the message yesterday another
search of Microsoft KB revealed article Q197066. Going to change to plain
text and test this morning. Will update the list.

Fresh out of Batman cookies. I do have this nice box of Microsoft Server
Crunch cereal though.

Thanks...Ray

Ooh! Ooh!
I know this one!

OL sending as RTF with the receiving clients being POP3 or IMAP4!

Just a guess.
We got any Batman cookies left?

Thanks...
