Perhaps they should be more specific in their recommendation.

 Quick question

Had a computer go down sent the drives to get the info off them. The
company was called Action front datalabes. They told me I have to run
isinteg util to get it back working. Any one know anything about this?

 TIA,
 Brett

Read up on the utility before running. Once you rebuild a server you have to
run a integrity check as one of the steps. That is where isinteg utility
comes in. Check Restore and recovery methods from MS or the archives here.

What is their reasoning?
Me, I would call PSS first before taking Symantec's advice...

Can anyone point me to a refresher on using the ISINTEG and ESEUTIL
utilities for Exchange 5.5? It's been a couple years since I have run these.
If I remember correctly they are run while Exchange is offline and
preferrably on a copy of priv.edb.

It looks like I might to run these in order to finish removing Norton
Antivirus for Exchange in order to reinstall it (at least that's what
Symantec says).

RE: isinteg/eseutil refresher

2001-10-31 Thread Tom Meunier

Huh, works flawlessly here. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded,
whatever. I have, however, noticed problems being reported in the
newsgroups and here by people not keeping current.

I consider the product a proper AV solution for my enterprise. Not
knowing how to drive a car doesn't make it an improper transportation
method. Note that Symantec's knowledge base is much more useful than
Symantec's tech support employees, as with most other technology
companies.

Off to comp.advocacy.nav-exchange now, seeya 'round.

If that's what takes to uninstall Norton AV for Exchange, I
 suggest you
flush it down the toilet and buy a proper AV for Exchange. I
 concur with
 the rest. Call PSS.

RE: Isinteg

2001-09-09 Thread Peña, Botp

1. doc is in the exchange server cd under support folder
2. read everything especially the beginning paragraphs about warning...
3. use the sp4 (it has fixes for the sp3)
4. do it in a test lab/server only [a]
5. do it piece by piece (see options)
6. finally, do it with the all option [b]

[a] if you need to do it in your prodn server, ask why? then ask the list
again :-)
[b] see how long the process takes... you do not want to get caught in a
power failure

I would not use the -fix option unless you are instructed to do so.

You have to tell it which tests to run. And if you don't know, then don't
run it.
