RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder

2001-12-13 Thread ExchangeList

Ok, I gave that a shot. The message appears to be sent From the PF. As
in the PF name appears in the From field in Outlook. The only reason I
clarify is that I don't do much sending on behalf of, so I'm not sure how
that normally looks. But as far as I can see, I'm successfully sending AS
the PF.

Even when I send to a hotmail address, the PF name appears in the From
field. But when you view the SMTP header (earlier in the thread), you see
my address in the Return-path field. Maybe someone with a minute or two on
their hands could test this, sending as a PF on their server and viewing the
header, see if you get the same behavior?

Thanks,
Mike

Send a message to yourself from the public folder. See if the message
appears to be sent from or sent on behalf of the public folder. If it's the
on behalf of thing, then your permissions aren't right.

H...I have this discussion list going to a PF, and the perms are Default
= Contributor, Anonymous = Contributor. If you are the owner of this PF,
then you should be in this perms list as well, with account name = Owner.

Not sure if this would make a difference, but do you have this set up as a
moderated folder? If so, do all the posts that are sent to this folder
automatically get sent to you for approval, before they get posted back to
the folder?

Default = Author, Anonymous = None. There are no other perms specified. My
guess is it's not a permissions problem - there are no errors or anything of
that nature.

Maybe this is just the way it works - but it seems kind of pointless to send
as a PF if your address is going to show up in the mail header.

me if I want to subscribe to Bugtraq. Only I don't WANT to

I'm pretty sure I subscribed to Bugtraq in this exact same
way in the past at my last company. Why does my address
show up in the return-path? Is this the default behavior,
and I just never noticed? How can I get the PF's address to
show up as the return-path?

Thanks for your time,
MikeS

RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder

2001-12-12 Thread ExchangeList

Default = Author, Anonymous = None. There are no other perms specified. My
guess is it's not a permissions problem - there are no errors or anything of
that nature.

Maybe this is just the way it works - but it seems kind of pointless to send
as a PF if your address is going to show up in the mail header.

RE: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder

2001-12-12 Thread Blunt, James H (Jim)

H...I have this discussion list going to a PF, and the perms are Default
= Contributor, Anonymous = Contributor. If you are the owner of this PF,
then you should be in this perms list as well, with account name = Owner.

Not sure if this would make a difference, but do you have this set up as a
moderated folder? If so, do all the posts that are sent to this folder
automatically get sent to you for approval, before they get posted back to
the folder?

Are you populating the 'From' box with the name of the PF?

Subject: SMTP issue with Sending as Public Folder

Greetings all,

I'm attempting to subscribe to the Bugtraq mailing list. As I've
done for other lists (including this one), I've created a public
folder to receive the list messages. I've given myself rights to
send as the public folder, unhidden it from the GAL, and sent a
subscription message to Bugtraq as the public folder.

Bugtraq replies with a confirmation message, only it comes, not to
the PF, but to my inbox. Below is the header of the subscription
message they
received:

As you can see, although the From field shows the public folder's
email address, the Return-Path field shows MY email address. Thus
the confirmation comes to me, and asks me if I want to subscribe to
Bugtraq. Only I don't WANT to subscribe MikeS, I want to subscribe
the PF.

I'm pretty sure I subscribed to Bugtraq in this exact same way in the
past at my

send an email to the SMTP address assigned to the PF - I've verified this by
sending from an outside email address.

On the Properties of the PF, what are the permission levels set to, for the
Default and Anonymous entries?

Sounds like a good idea, although I've never had to do that before. It
didn't work though... my address still shows up in the return-path.

Send a message to yourself from the public folder. See if the message
appears to be sent from or sent on behalf of the public folder. If it's the
on behalf of thing, then your permissions aren't right.
