[expert] mount/umount problems
Somehow, someway, I jacked-up my partition table. What happened wasIn DrakConf -> Diskdrake I deleted and re-created my swap partition. Now, swap does not work. Swap turns on as an incorrect partition. *And*, fstab/mtab/df-ahT/diskdrake do not agree. The output from df-ahT and fstab and mtab are below. /opt seems to not be in my path now, but I can access the files that are there. I also cannot access any files on /mnt/windows either. And root cannot umount it. # ls /mnt/windows `.?* ?.?* ½?@9* é* õ.??*x.?* |.?* ?`.?*0ç???.@ãx/ ?ê??.?* õ.è©x/ xç???ç??.?* ?.?* ?`.?*9.½?* ?ê??.?½?*pö???.?* ?]??ÿ]??* .?* ?`.?*9.ð* @ê??ÿé??.?* p ???* * ?*?`.?*9.p?* f_posix.?* seek!* * ?*?`.?*?â???â??.½?* f_posix.é?* s_if!* * ?.?* ?.?* å.f_r* ?.f_r* °ü??pé??.?* ?*0* ?å???ü??.?*f_rwacc.?* utoload.?* ?*@???@???.0* ,]??á ??* ï~??0???.?* utoload.?* ?*0.?* ðå??ðå??.½?* õ* x???* # df -ahT FilesystemTypeSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda9 ext2509M 50M 434M 11% / none proc 0 0 0 - /proc none devfs 0 0 0 - /dev nonedevpts 0 0 0 - /dev/pts /dev/hda8 ext26.9G 3.2G 3.3G 49% /home /dev/hda10ext22.7G 1.7G 948M 65% /usr /dev/hda11ext22.7G 1.7G 948M 65% /usr/local none tmpfs125M 0 124M 0% /dev/shm /dev/hda12ext2 1004M 11M 942M 2% /opt /dev/hda13ext2533M 8.0K 505M 1% /var fstab: /dev/hda9 / ext2 defaults 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 /dev/hda8 /home ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/hda1 /mnt/C ntfs user,umask=0 0 0 /dev/hda6 /mnt/E ntfs user,umask=0 0 0 /dev/hda7 /mnt/F ntfs user,umask=0 0 0 /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 defaults 0 0 /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom2 iso9660 defaults 0 0 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy vfat user 0 0 /dev/hda14 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0 /dev/hda12 /opt ext2 defaults 1 2 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda10 /usr ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/hda11 /usr/local ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/hda13 /var ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/hda15 swap swap defaults 0 0 mtab: /dev/hda9 / ext2 rw 0 0 none /proc proc rw 0 0 none /dev devfs rw 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts rw,mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda8 /home ext2 rw 0 0 /dev/hda10 /usr ext2 rw 0 0 /dev/hda11 /usr/local ext2 rw 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0 /dev/hda12 /opt ext2 rw 0 0 /dev/hda13 /var ext2 rw 0 0 Does anyone have any idea of what happened or how I can fix this? I might point out here that I came across a set of benchmarks that compared IDE performance across the standard IDE ports and the HPT37X controller IDE ports. The HPT37X ports performed better than standard IDE under those benches; logically therefore you are better off to do soft RAID on the HPT37X. This somewhat justifies your investment; I for one have kept on buying the Abit VIA K-series boards. As I've said before elsewhere, this is also valuable from the viewpoint that you will have two extra standard IDE controllers to play with. Maybe I should use gmc to draw the background instead of nautilus... I wonder if that would help. I would use something like Enlightenment or fluxbox, but IIRC they don't play too nice with dual-head systems.. (I've got two network cards and two monitors attached to my workstation... a 19" and a 15" LCD and I don't want windows (ie. galeon) to span both monitors, but when I maximize them, want them to maximize to the monitor they are on). Currently, I can only seem to do this with gnome and kde... and kde is just... ugh. To do either with 8.2 you need to install ld.so1-1.9.11-9mdk. This is not on your CDs but you can dl it from the 8.2 contrib directory or the Cooker contrib directory. But with the error you are receiving you may also have another problem. Have you double checked the path for xwp and verified that it is in fact /usr/local/wordperfect/wpbin/xwp? Using a file mgr go to that directory and either by double click or command try launching Using the file mgr (not a terminal or shortcut), unless you have already installed ld.so1, you should get a segfault error. If you still get a path error then the problem is your WP installation and your best bet would be to run the uninstall script and after installing ld.so1 reinstall WP8. Re: [expert] "Raw_add: partition table full" error
I can't tell you how to unfoul your partitions but I can give you a copy of PM that I currently own. If that will help that is. I have an ftp connection I use *simple DSL* which you're welcome to use to get the files. Femme -- Good Decisions You boss Made: "We'll do as you suggest and go with Linux. Partition Magic probably will not help, but it includes PARTED.EXE a partition table editor (but be super careful!). Unfortunately PARTED is old and does not support access to cylinders above 1024.PM also includes PARTINFO.EXE which will give you a report on what is wrong. This supports > 1024. But best is to download XOSL from http://www.xosl.org, put it on a floppy, and install it. It is free. When it is running, ^P will bring up the Ranish Partition Manager which will show you exactly what is illegal (marked in red) about your partition table(s), and lead you through the repair process.
