Re: [expert] Still telnet server not working
i would say, look for the rpm package on the CD an try to install is manually. it's on the first cd in the Mandrake/RPMS directory. change to this directory an do an: rpm -ivh telnet-server*.rpm if it says already installed ok otherwise it is installed now. mfg heiko faisal wrote: > > Yes telnet server is installed for sure .:-) Hm.. hey it is > appearing under internet program group !!! is it OK ? > > - Original Message - > From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2000 8:23 AM > Subject: Re: [expert] Still telnet server not working > > > are you sure you have installed the telnet-server? it's an extra package > > which isn't installed by default! look for an rpm called > > telnet-server. or something like this. > > > > mfg heiko > > > > faisal wrote: > > > > > > Hey man i am through with this telnet server is still not working > > > > > > I have checked the /etc/inetd.conf file & telnet line is not commited > out > > > the host.allow & host .deny are fine > > > i even have reinstalled mandrake :-) > > > But . > > > > > > Tell me please how can we check that telnet server is running or not > also > > > does telnet server apper in the setup configration program under the > startup > > > programs ? > > > > > > thanks > > > Faisal > > > > > > > > > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > > > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list. > > > > > > > > > > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list. > > > > > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list. Re: [expert] Still telnet server not working
Is the telnet-server-0.16-4mdk package installed? - just because the lines are in the config files does *NOT* mean it is. You have to manually install the telnet-server package. Use kpackage and check that you have it. This was a bad move on Mandrakes part (prob under the guise of security, misguided coz they didnt supply anything else to provide the functionality, or document it properly!) to remove it as it is one of the standard unix packages and it keeps catching even experianced people out. Would have been better to include it in the base install and disable it in the inetd files (hint hint Mandrake!) No, telnet is usually run from inetd. Make sure inetd is running (that's why you need to check the inetd.conf file). > thanks > Faisal > > > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list. -- |--| Buchan MilneMechanical Engineer, Network Manager Cellphone +27824722231 email mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Centre for Automotive Engineering http://www.cae.co.za South Africas first satellite:http://sunsat.ee.sun.ac.za Control Models http://www.control.co.za |Registered Linux User #182071-| Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
Re: [expert] Still telnet server not working
are you sure you have installed the telnet-server? it's an extra package which isn't installed by default! look for an rpm called telnet-server. or something like this. mfg heiko faisal wrote: > > Hey man i am through with this telnet server is still not working > > I have checked the /etc/inetd.conf file & telnet line is not commited out > the host.allow & host .deny are fine > i even have reinstalled mandrake :-) > But . > > Tell me please how can we check that telnet server is running or not also > does telnet server apper in the setup configration program under the startup > programs ? > > thanks > Faisal > > > Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: > Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.
