Errr...I made a typo in this email. The real command line I am trying to run
is:

/usr/bin/kdesu -c /usr/bin/nmapfe

-Chris

work?

I am running 7.2 w/KDE. I have used the menu editor to modify the
"shortcut" to load nmapfe as follows:

 /usr/bin/kdesu -s /usr/bin/nmapfe

If I type this in at a command prompt I get prompted for root's password,
which is what I want. But when I put the same command line in the menu
nmapfe runs as the user I am logged on as. This is getting annoying. Any
 ideas?

Yep...try using -c rather than -s.

Yeah, that's happened to me too. I've installed ML7.1 maybe a dozen times
(essentially the same each time) and sometimes kdesu is there, other times
not.

Put your Installation CD in the drive
mount -t iso9960 -o ro /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS
rpm -Uhv kdesu

then hit the Tab key, then the Enter key. Hit the tab key for filename
completion and because I can't remember those long filenames. If this
installs it (and it should), then get off the CD (just typing "cd" will
put you back in your home directory) and unmount the CD (umount
/dev/cdrom).

1) install it :)
2) Sure it is. There are other packages that can do essentially the same.
Take your pick.
3) You've got me there :)
4) /var/lib/games rpm -qf `which kdesu`
kdesu-0.98-14mdk

it's most likely missing cause it never installed. You can install it if
you know specifically which RPM installs that utility using kpackage
logged in as root.

Re: [expert] kdesu broken?

1999-10-08 Thread Alex ZIJDENBOS

I've finally found what the problem with kdesu is. Or at least, what
the cause is: kdesu doesn't work when root uses tcsh.

Personally I grew up with tcsh and never could get used to (ba)sh, so
one of the first things I do when installing linux is to change all
shells to tcsh...
