Don't know if he still does. No longer taught. But I see the EMDR approach in a lot of things, including TM. EMDR appears to work by uniting the right and left hemispheres. It can also be seen as an orienting response. When a wild animal is traumatized it first freezes. As the threat goes away, the animal eventually starts this rapid eye movement from left to right, right to left. In effect re-orienting itself. Finally it literally shakes off the trauma. We acknowledge this when we tell someone to shake it off. We tell someone how we've had this cold or fear for so long and have just not been able to shake it off. One of the worse things you can do to any animal is to interrupt it's freezing, orienting then shaking off a trauma. People do this with pets and even fallen birds. The result is that they don't recover from the trauma and eventually succomb to it. If you think about it there's a lot of the rhythmic bilateral in many of our activities including dancing and foot or finger tapping to music. I used to love to just walk quickly, sometimes for many miles. A lot of troublesome emotions and energy just bubbled right out with the left right left right. Yes, pranayam also has a bilateral effect. It's kind of like speaking prose. Once you look around you see we're engaging in bilateral activities all the time and don't even realize the underlying benefits of it all.
[FairfieldLife] Chancellor Katehi walks to her car
Whoa. This is chilling and wonderful. UC-Davis Chancellor Katehi walks from the administration building to her car late Saturday night after the police pepper-spraying on Friday, through a throng of absolutely silent protesters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8775ZmNGFY8 Here's a description of how this developed from someone who was observing it: A press conference, scheduled for *4:00pm* between the UC Davis Chancellor and police with local press on campus, did not end in an hour, as planned. Instead, a mass of Occupy Davis students and sympathizers mobilized outside, demanding to have their voice heard. After some initial confusion, UC Chancellor Linda Katehi refused to leave the building, attempting to give the media the impression that the students were somehow holding her hostage. A group of highly organized students formed a large gap for the chancellor to leave. They chanted we are peaceful and just walk home, but nothing changed for several hours. Eventually student representatives convinced the chancellor to leave after telling their fellow students to sit down and lock arms (around 7:00pm) A few commenters and people on Twitter have asked why the chancellor is at the center of this firestorm over the police pepper spraying. Chancellor Katehi approved of the police action (though specifics of what she ordered exactly are still a mystery), and ordered the UC Davis cops to evict the protesters, resulting in the heinous pepper spraying video now plastered everywhere on the web. She has not apologized to the students or worked to remedy the situation for instance, one student who was pepper sprayed told me she still has health problems after the incident, and no one from the administration contacted her to see if she's okay. Katehi's refusal to condemn the police action has only made a bad situation worse. http://thesecondalarm.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/ucdavis-chancellor-video/ http://tinyurl.com/7ajhabm

Greetings group members. I am happy to read the group's introduction, since I also embrace many genuine paths, and appreciate insights and originality from any potential source. I learned TM when I was 11 and learned the TM-Sidhi program about 10 years later. I personally have always felt completely content (grateful) with these practices. I have no desire to learn any other techniques of meditation only because these, for me, are powerful and totally fulfilling in themselves. At the same time, though, I appreciate and respect anyone else's freedom in finding their own way, as we all do in this challenging life. A very brief bio, I graduated from MIU in '91 with a B.A. in Literature and an Art minor, and then got an M.A. in Spanish Literature from a state school in Texas. Obviously, I love literature and languages, and also independent film. Sincerely I add also that I love doing my program! I'm leaving below a link to a poem I wrote about Maharishi. The other blog at that site is a brief letter I wrote describing people's general, and variegated, response to my book The Return of Spirit. Since Fairfield residents figure into this discussion of how those writings were received, this essay (Masking the Truth) might also be of interest to group members. Thank you for letting me join, and I look forward to going through a sample of former posts made here, whose topics sound intriguing. My blogs are at http://peoplesguidetotheendoftheworld.blogspot.com/. All the best, Tim Austin

[FairfieldLife] Pontypool not your everyday zombie movie
I watched Pontypool on Netflix WI last night. It is an excellent horror movie about a small town Ontario radio talk jock learns reports of locals behaving strangely. It is a Canadian production with the shock jock excellently played by Canadian actor Stephen McHattie and his producer played by Lisa Houle. This is a very different and intriguing film with some good moments of dark comedy. And you won't be overburdened by amateur actors playing zombies because zombies are seen very little in this production. The cause the outbreak sounds like a topic that would pop up on FFL. http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Pontypool/70109421 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226681/

[FairfieldLife] Fairfield exodus (was Re: Occupy the Domes!!)
The challenge now for sustaining the dome numbers is that the conservative movement still uses their anti-saint policy as a loyalty test and to punish people by with-holding valid Dome badges to the group meditation. They are still actively linking the anti-saint policy as discipline towards getting a current dome badge. Yes, there is a push on right now with the recent 'draw-down' of pundits going back to India. The draw-down recently left a hole in the aggregate numbers meditating here as those numbers are calculated. The pundits came in brigades of one or two hundred staggered over time. Their visas are good for a limited time period. Some groups of pundits have recently completed their deployment here, have returned to India and they have not been replaced by others. Hence the push to have the locals fill the breech in now. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Susan wayback71@ wrote: Thanks, Judy. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, authfriend jstein@ wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Susan wayback71@ wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Buck wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, nablusoss1008 no_reply@ wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Buck wrote: Yes, good observation. Greetings Tim, glad to have you on the forum. From what I gather, pretty much everyone on this forum is a meditator/siddha. However, i'll have to warn you that this forum isn't quite what it was 7-8 years ago. It used to be a forum where aspects of spirituality and other deep topics were discussed. These days, you can expect occasional subjects of a deeper nature mixed with arguments about politics, famous people, and whether or not a Chevy is inferior to a Ford. It can be very random, but at the same time if there wasn't such a thing as 'superficial', then there wouldn't be such a thing as 'deep'. So expect the full spectrum of life in these discussions, not just 'transcendental' concepts. You are also going to find common feuds here. There are some very notable and dominant personalities in this group who i've come to believe their whole purpose in life is to communicate on FFL. You'll catch on real quick to who's who and what to expect from them. Don't be disappointed if you see some childish bickering on occasion either. I've seen some rather low-class insults and belittling of others go on here. Opinions run deep with some of these people, and I admit guilt of it sometimes myself. There are several types of people here. TB's (true believers), characterized by a deep conviction that the TMO (tm orgainization) is quite possibly the greatest thing in the history of the world, and TM will take our souls from A to Z in one lifetime. Then there is the polar opposite which I call the NB's (non believers) who think the TMO is a complete scam, TM is a pseudo-spiritual technique, and MMY (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) is a fraudulent Guru who squeezed an ocean of material benefits from an ounce of spiritual truth. Then there are balanced people who think that TM is awesome, but the higher ups in the TMO are so looney that the TMO is doomed. Then there are others that have completely left behind TM/TMSP (TM siddhi's prgm) for other spiritual paths, but still recognize TM/TMSP's value.

In effect the linking of that anti-saint policy towards getting a dome badge as a punishment is completely antagonizing out in the larger meditating community. It goes back for years. Everyone knows or has heard of someone else whose badge is lifted for visiting saints while hundreds of others are still in the dome for the same thing anyway. The policy is without conscience as they use it. It goes back for years. Everyone knows or has heard of someone else whose badge is lifted for visiting saints while hundreds of others are still in the dome for the same thing anyway. The policy is without conscience as they use it. I am only guessing, but I suspect that those who are in the Domes and have visited saints have not told the TMO - hence their continued entry to the Domes. Those who get badges revoked have either told the truth to the powers that be in the TMO, been spotted seeing saints, or been ratted on by someone. This is the same policy that has been in effect for decades and it was started and continued by Maharishi - not rajas, not Bevan, not John H. To change the policy would mean that some people very high up decide to modify Maharishi's direct orders. And as you know, Maharishi was very very clear about this right from the beginning. Now, there could be a few ways to change all this - maybe They (Bevan, Rajas etc) could admit to themselves that they need more in the Dome, that Maharishi might not have meant for this punishment to last for the remaining lifetime of people initiated into TM, that many many TM teachers have in fact seen other saints, and that there could be a way to forgive this sin. It could be a certain period of time since you last saw a saint combined with a statement about when if ever you ever practiced something other than pure TM. It could involve paying the TMO a donation. Somehow They have to get to a point where this is discussed. What is strange is that when a person is instructed in TM, no one ever ever says that from now on you cannot see a saint, get darshan from a saint, try something else. That rule gets thrown in later, and makes those who need to see a living saint in person feel guilty. At the least, surely once a master has passed on, his disciples should be given leeway to be in the presence of Enlightened people, even of another tradition. And they shuld be trusted to kow waht is best for themselves. I fully understand the the domes should be for doing TM and siddhis only. I personally cannot believe that Maharishi meant for this exclusion to last a lifetime. Hopefully, so do the higher ups. Maybe they are afraid to make thi change, because it could lead to others? The challenge now for sustaining the dome numbers is that the conservative movement still uses their anti-saint policy as a loyalty test and to punish people by with-holding valid Dome badges to the group meditation. [FairfieldLife] Occupy Des Moines
I had two complimentary tickets for the Iowa Democratic Party's annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner fundraiser in Des Moines at Hy-Vee Hall. I invited a fellow Democrat and good friend to be my guest. We decided to make a side trip to the nearby Occupy Des Moines campsite in Stewart Park. There are about 25 regular campers and about that many tents on site. By the time we arrived very few people were there because the Occupiers were assembling in Nollen Plaza for a march to Hy-Vee Hall to protest the Democrats choosing Rahm Emauel as keynote speaker. I made two videos of Occupy Des Moines, which I'll post this evening. I'll post the Jefferson Jackson event soon after I finish editing.
