[FairfieldLife] Re: TM, Quietism, & the Quakers

2016-03-22 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Good example, MD of how a spiritual movements can spread in a time. Sort of
like TM did in the 1950-70's. By shakti of experience and then word of mouth
from family and friends. That was the Quaker spiritual movement in its day.
Mobility through kin and connection.

Someone here in Fairfield with connection to Vermont and New England just
handed me a 900 page dissertation that was written on the spread of what the
author is calling, 'antinomianism' of various shades. A study of separatist
spirituality from European roots moving across New England, jumping and going
around what was then the ISIS-like colony of its day, Massachusetts Colony to
settle further into New England.

A thesis in this work amongst others is that this separatist spirituality
(different than religion) moved in its day following kin and business
connection often through seaports and then inland.

 MD writes:
My tenth Great Grandfather , Ambrose Dixon, was born in London in 1623. He
migrated to James Virginia about 1640. He came over as a ship's carpenter. He
was a Quaker, living in a predominately Presbyterian community. He and a few
other Quakers felt discriminated against for their faith and petitioned Lord
Baltimore to move to Maryland where they were welcomed and granted land. I
guess you could say he was *in* on the beginnings of the Quaker Sect and one of
the first in the colonies.

spiritual (chakra) energy work (Pietists).

Maharishi's tenet of 'collective meditation' is most similar to George Fox's
movement in its day.

Today someone like Ammachi or Janet Sussman are good examples of the spiritual
practices of 'piety' at work. Connie Huebner in Fairfield is a great example
of the old spiritual line of inspirationists (RPB) coming out of Europe that
goes way back. They each blend quietism with their spiritual disciplines.

It seems that every generation or so another one rises up with their manifest
spiritual experience and a satsanga may form. Generations of separatists
generated a lot of writing that they passed around between each other in and
across Europe.

2016-03-22 Thread yifux...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Chevalier Andrew Michael Ramsay, (1686 - 1743), Enlightenment thinker and
Freemason; born in Scotland, spent most of his life in France.
Known as a "Universalist" (incorporating the heretical belief that all people
can and will be saved, regardless of their beliefs and religion) Naturally,
such teachings were contrary to Roman Catholocism of the day. The RC Church
in recent years has amended it's "unofficial" pronouncement so as to allow for
the Salvation of those in other religions, but waffling a lot by saying that
Catholics will deserve a higher place in Heaven that the others. Reminds me of
the book "Animal Farm" (all of the animals are equal but some are more equal
than others).
 .
Ramsay said "Almighty Power, Wisdom, and Love cannot be eternally frustrated
in his absolute and ultimate designs; therefore God will at last pardon and
re-establish in happiness all lapsed being."
The foregoing idea would be an obvious threat to the RC teachings prevalent in
France at that time.

Room and Board? 20 USDollars a day? Some of the spiritual old TM

quite a lot of Fairfield was there and some people were saying, ‘don’t tell
anyone you saw me here, I am in the Dome on the Assembly grant...’

Doug,

Antalya, Turkey, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, looks like an ideal place
for a meditation assembly. After the assembly, one can visit historical
places, like Greece and other parts of Europe. The lodging price is excellent
when compared to the tourist prices around the world.

Room and Board? 20 USDollars a day? Some of the spiritual old TM pensioners
on this list could afford that. Particularly the experienced ones who could be
there with the group instead of just being holed up by themselves in far away
places like Texas or California, lend their company to the energetic synergy of
the group.

Join the Antalya Assembly this spring for 19 EUR per day

This is a whole another level of activism (order of magnitude) from some
anti-war protesting like shouting “Hell no We won’t Go! and burning draft cards
that we may have done back in the 60’s. This is modern social direct action,
going up towards the front lines and meditating. Look at the map on the site.
Bravo, these European meditationists!

In the grace of large nature, spirituality by experience and science are with
them. This is high-minded.

I have to regard these peace activists, look around this site of theirs and
explore the links. They are part of a long and very old high tradition of
antinomianism, very much our kind of people as transcendental meditationists
here in Fairfield.

I am going to push the donate button and send them some money.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Happy Spring To Everyone!

2016-03-22 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
There should be still be some rain next month, if the lyrics in one of the
standard tunes are correct. April showers...or April in Paris...

But Mother Nature is still dumping much needed buckets of rain here the the SF
Bay Area. Yesterday I was at the local farmer's market after having walked at
the waterfront park. At 12 noon a torrential rain hit though it only lasted
about 2 minutes. I had pointed out to a friend that looking at the hills at
the edge of town to the west there was rain coming in. The remainder of the
storms haven't been as intense.

Seems every couple weeks the California water board has to revise the effect
of the rain on the drought. They seem like power freaks but they keep having
to eat crow.
